Like Gingervamp said,Quiche.
You can buy the ready made pastry bases for about 59p in Tesco's ect so you can quickly make up a couple of different ones for about two quid, cheaper than you can buy a ready made one! (Healthier too as you know what's gone into them!!)0 -
Thanks, have had a request for fried chicken so will be throwing a few pieces in. Have some 'ready-bake' baguettes in the freezer . . . . cheese(s) and crackers, check . . . did a traybake yesterday
I feel a menu coming together :rotfl:0 -
Hi Kadeeae,
This thread should give you lots more ideas:
Any ideas for picnic food??
I'll add your thread to it later to keep the suggestions together.

I like hummus with things to dip into it- crackerbreads, baguette, carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, that kind of thing. Very easy and quick to make if you have a tin of chickpeas in the cupboard.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0

argghhh - you CANT have a picnic at this time of year without .................Strawberries!!! if you could plot your route past a pickyourown farm and pack a couple of tubs of cream - I personally wouldnt care what the rest of the picnic consisted of! in fact, my OH took me to a PYO farm as a treat when i was having my first, we picked a huge basket of strawberries then the darling produced a tub of cream and we had a lovely picnic at a really pretty beauty spot not far from the pyo place! (sighs) the nicest thing he has EVER done for me!!!0

I agree re the strawberries, they seem to be half price everywhere at the moment too, not sure I'd chance cream though in this (uncharacteristically) hot weather! My son is on a diet at the moment so when we went to the beach at half term we took strawberries with pots of weightwatchers rich chocolate mousse to dip them into, it was lovely, like having your own mobile chocolate fountain!
One of the best picnics I remember was an impromptu one when we passed a Tesco and my friend ran in and bought a hot, cooked chicken and a baguette and we tore it apart and ate it with our fingers!Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
Strawberries, of course!! :rotfl:
If I'm thinking of the correct road . . . . there is actually a PYO farm just off a bit from one of the picnic spots I was thinking of. Very slight detour = freshly picked berries. Yaaayy!0 -
I always love doing Pan Bagnat - honestly, if a council for this sandwich existed, I'd be on commission for them - it's like a round loaf with the top sliced off to make a 'lid' and the soft bits of bread taken out then you fill it with basically a nicoise salad and weight the clingfilm covered sandwich for a few hours. When you take it with you, all you need is a knife to cut it into pie like wedges and it's yummy!"We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" I was going suggest the exact same thing! I fill mine with salad leaves/ham/chicken/roasted peppers/fresh herbs/cheese and drizzle with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar, then a pinch of salt and pepper.
its a great way of using up odd slices of meat, cheese, salad, veg that you have lying around. I often get the cheap endy bits of meat from the deli counter in the supermarket and stick them in! Its a really substantial sandwich, looks ace- especially if you think about the order you put things in as it looks stripy! You can do it with any kind of unsliced loaf, and if the breads a wee bit soft, ot you have wetter fillings, you can give the inside 'bowl' a wee brush or spray with oil and stick it in the over to crisp up a bit, makes a protective kind of base, also you could line it with salad leaves for the same effect!
Oh man I really want one now! :rotfl:0
