  • Would soup be an option as it is still very chilly? or are you after more romantic suggestions?!

Something spicy would be good. Maybe a Potato Salad with some frankfurters adn some finely chopped chilli?

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!

Not after romantic, I'm far too clumsy to try romantic!

We only have one small flask in the house, which wouldn't hold enough soup to feed us both.
I baked some cookies last night so will be taking a 2 of those each, but two cookies clearly don't make a meal!

dronid - that sounds yummy! I think we have some chillis left over from making nigellas red chilli jam so I'd only have to get the frankfurters.

Will be taking carrot sticks and hummus as well, will see if I can find a bigger flask for some soup as I could do with one for work anyways! Best get a list of ideas sorted.

thank you pink-winged!! And I'm glad I could inspire someone! Going to have a look in the cupboards when I get home and see what I can find. All I have on my list atm is hummus to dip carrot sticks in!

As it's getting warmer now and lots of us will be heading out for picnics, does anyone have any recipes for nice food to take? Hopefully there will be some foods that stay fresh in the heat and won't get damaged when it's moved!

I'll start with one that you will either love or hate - olives! Copied from some I got at Boots...

Get some green olives, drain them if needed, coat them with sunflower oil, add crushed chilli, chopped garlic, a little bit of basil and some salt. Mix it all up and you've got a tasty snack! You can adjust the amounts of seasoning depending on your taste. Don't forget the breath mints though...and watch the fat content with all that oil!

When my kids were small and we used to go on picnics, I'd take a french loaf, a pack of babybels, a pack of soft cheese, bag of grapes, packet of crisps each and a drink each. No preparation needed, easy to carry, no lugging of plastic containers and coolboxes. It was great!
