December 2013 Grocery Challenge

hope everyone had a lovely Christmas.
Still no spends since the 21st so doing really well this month. We will need bread tomorrow though so will see if there are any good reductions on anything else while I am there.


Having the last of the turkey today. Have frozen a couple of things that we never got around to eating.

3 NSD's here.
We had pork + roast potatoes + roast parsnip + sprouts + carrots + sage/onion stuffing + HM Yorkshire Pudding + gravy + HM apple sauce for dinner on Christmas day. I realised - we had no apple sauce so I quickly cubed a Braeburn apple from the last Aldo SS - put in MW - done. I did take a photo but don't know what happened to it. No - I wasn't tipsy - no alcohol drunk here.
Plenty of pork left - in freezer - I carved it all in the afternoon. I cooked a turkey crown while oven was on.

No shopping here since Christmas Eve. We will need milk tomorrow.

Actually, as it goes I've just realised we also have some double cream in door that didn't get used up over Christmas.... oh 'eck...

We never have any luck freezing cream so at a loss what to do with it...

I would just chuck it all in the food processor and keep on whisking/blending through the over whipped stage until it turns into butter and buttermilk. The key thing is to rinse it really well before you freeze it. If it was me I would do a mix of your extra thick and the double cream just because I haven't tried making utter with the extra thick stuff before. If you haven't got a blender then a hand mixer/kenwood or simply a washed out empty plastic milk bottle half full of cream (shaken for what feels like for ever!) will eventually make butter.

Thanks hex2 I'll pull out my mixer and give that a go this evening. I didn't realise I'd need to wash it either so good job you mentioned that - never made butter before, am feeling quite excited as now!

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a lovely Christmas.
Thank you Meg for your kind words of encouragement.
2 small spends on bread & milk which I've added to my signature. Still have lots of food in the house so will make a careful list for next week. Have got £10 off £60 shop at Mr S. Will stock up on household stuff & lots of healthy fruit.

Mr F just came in - got whoops packs of prepared veggies from Mr Asdo - 8p each + a half price Christmas cake. I have added to sig.
We had HM Fish Pie + Broccoli + carrots for dinner + Tartare sauce.
