I ordered our Christmas turkey today. We had so many deliveries today (we've bought a few pieces of furniture as well as festive gifts online) that I'm starting to feel guilty about not spending locally. Anyhow, the local butcher has my order for a half turkey crown that looks like good value for my money. Should be about £24.

We had a local veg box delivered this week as well. It's a great idea, but we don't have root veggies every day, and the cabbage and sprouts had a lot of bugs in them. It had a kilo of pears, 6 apples (2 varieties), 6 oranges, dozen small bananas, 2 leeks, a punnet of mushrooms, bag of sprouts (500g?), massive cabbage, fair sized cauliflower, tray of green beans, half kilo of carrots, half kilo parsnips, 2.5kg potatoes and half a dozen free range eggs. I think I can get this for a similar price in a supermarket (and no bugs), but I liked the idea of supporting local :(

I've had 3 NSDs already this month, which I'm quite pleased about!

Struggling so far this month and only 1 week in! I just don't seem to have the will power at all to be budgeting when i'm shopping.

:T Fingers crossed it all goes to plan and I can have a first successful week

Great to see you thinking about it though and have a plan. I'm sure you'll get more will power as you start to see benefits from budgeting and a bit more practice. Good Luck

Another NSD today. I was out at course so had soup and bread from freezer earlier and left DH mince (from freezer), toast and beans for his tea.

Just got salmon pieces out of freezer for tea tomorrow.

Can anyone tell me where to find the tech details to download a picture onto here PLEASE

Have a great thrifty Thursday ;)

Im doing ok so far I think spent £4 on batteries & choccies to put in advent calendar (forgot to buy choccies for the first few days so shoved a biccy in so the lo would have something there for her!) Also have some vodka family bought from Poland so I bought some .69p diet lemonade to go with it-not couting that though as I found £1 on the way to the shop.

Last nights tea was supposed tobe kippers with roast pots and broccoli however im not sure how long the kippers had been in the freezer for but they were odd smelling and I tasted a little and they'd deffo turned now OH said he'd go and get some fish from the chippie however mindful of this challenge I told him to make something from the fridge so we had an odd combination of bacon, egg beans roast pots and broccoli however all eaten and enjoyed and no extra spends!!

Small spend yesterday £3.50 on cleaning products.

I had a nightmare journey into work - the trains were screwed up and I had to go by bus - an extra 90 minuteson my journey! So I treated myself to hot sausages in french bread for breakfast - £1.65 . (My first lapse in bringing home made breakfasts and lunches to work since 1 November) :p

I've still got a six pack of chicken breasts and a pack of turkey mince in the fridge that we haven't used yet - I've got tomorrow off work so will do some batch cooking for the freezer. :A

Going to plan my Christmas purchases ready for Saturday's weekly shop so I'm expecting a bit of a dent in my budget! ;)

  • I feel like I am doing really well with the challenge so far this month. It's nice to feel in control of the food spending again.

This month I withdrew the food money out of the bank and put it in envelopes marked week 1, 2 etc. I had money left in the Week 1 envelope and that will be going into the Credit Union savings account tonight. Here's hoping I can keep this up over the Christmas period. I have set aside £80 to use for extra christmas bits. So far we have not touched it.

We get paid early in December and I usually end up spending alot of this wage even before we get to January. The challenge this year will be to NOT do that!
