Hi All
I got my callback today from YB and after taking my name, DOB and address - they told me they could not open the account over the phone and I would need to visit the branch with ID! I asked whenever I could send them by post and they said no...
This is really weird as my credit history is A1 and I never have any trouble opening accounts or getting credit. I have also been registered at the same address for over 30 years.
YB are really crazy.
Anyone else have this experience?
I think I will try again tomorrow as I don't have any branch which is nearby.
Thx.
Update:
Well I got lucky today, the rep informed me this time that my application was successful! All in all it took about 20-25 mins...which isn't too bad. As Innovate said earlier...you have to listen to whole lot of boring spiel but my rep today sounded sexy and read fast so I didn't mind. ;p
Next steps is sign and return some forms in the post...might be up and running in a week or so.
Patience is indeed the Key with YB.

I received my forms last Friday, returned them first class the same day and it's now Thursday - my switching day is supposed to be Monday but they haven't kept me informed and I haven't received my debit card or anything yet. Two weeks since the application . . . I remember when I opened my Metro Bank account it was 45 minutes from walking into the branch to walking out with debit card, cheque book and internet banking! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Opening an account is different from switching. The 7 switching days only start once your account has been opened, and YB and CB are making a massive meal out of opening an account.
Still, I am happily keeping £3K in my YB account for an entire year, and I water it with the monthly £1K, whilst I feed my Metro account only when I need cash abroad. And I could open the YB account without a 6-hour round trip to a branch.0 -
I applied for one of these accounts two weeks ago and have heard absolutely nothing.0

I received my Clydesdale debit card today - 15 days after opening the account over the phone. The signed docs were posted back to them 7 days ago. no news about the switching service - I'm in the dark about whether this will happen on Monday 11th as requested.
I do feel that as part of the switching process the bank ought to be keeping the customer informed. This could easily be done by email. How am I going to know whether the switch has happened on Monday? Internet banking hasn't been setup neither has phone banking. Customer services couldn't tell me anything apart from 'I don't see why the switch shouldn't go through for Monday'. Well today being Friday is effectively one working day before the switch - I feel I ought to have more concrete information at this stage! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Just as well I don't want to use that account as a proper current account. I am still waiting for the security token that I ordered on Nov 2. To be fair, they did say it would take 5-7 working days. Today is wk day 7, so there is hope.......0

Has anyone here received their security token yet? Is it like Nationwide's reader that anyone can use or personal to them like Coventry's grid card? Ie do partners need one each?0

At last! My security token finally arrived this morning. Activation was simple enough, so I am now all set. I have also been able to set up a Standing Order for £1,000. Took three and a half calendar weeks from applying to having a workable account.
I just hope the battery won't run out anytime soon in that token, since apart from a new battery, it appears you also need the tiniest of screwdrivers to open the battery compartment. I haven't seen a screw-locked battery compartment in any gadget for the last 20-odd years!
If CB and YB are looking for a new Marketing slogan, I could suggest: "We are different". Because they sure are.0 -

Indeed, they don't make life simple do they! Happy to hear that you are good to go now now...I hope to join you in a few weeks too.0
