Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two

@zafiro1984, you can always do your own and keep it in a small container. My standard would be equal amounts of ground coriander and ground cumin. Half of cinnamon and half of tumeric (if you have any). So tablespoon coriander, tablespoon cumin, half tablespoon cinnamon, half tablespoon turmeric. The tumeric is more for colour. Mix and then use what you need.
Or you can go the Thai (?)curry route: ginger, chilli, (fresh) coriander, which with those veg will be great adding some coconut milk too.
Hope that helps. It's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.3 -
IN: 3 Gammon joints, 9 x 250g portions of turkey mince, 7 chicken breast.
OUT: 0Do I need it or just want it.1 -
Thanks carinjo I actually have all those spices, I'll make up a small jar and have it on standby. They ate the soup and no one said anything so nothing wasted.
OUT:- Yesterday - a boneless rolled shoulder of pork to make pulled pork in the slow cooker. We'll have it today for tea so I need to get some buns out to accompany it. Also a turkey breast (I grow my own turkeys, sell them at Xmas and freeze the surplus) needed to make sandwiches.
OUT today:- I think just bread/rolls as there is enough salad things in the fridge and dessert will be some bramley apples off the tree in some form or other - maybe crumble.I'm going to process some crab apples this afternoon - a bucket full - so it;s looking like crabapple and clove jelly and crabapple and rosehip jelly (I've already done the rosehips)2 -
Didn't have time to do the crabapples must do it tomorrow before they start to bruise
Out: half leg of mutton, now in the ironheart (poor mans aga) not sure if it will be cooked enough for 8pm -if not it's egg on toast for tea

IN: Shepherds pie base
OUT: Went out for a meal Thursday, which as sat on extremely uncomfortable chairs ended up in a back spasm, 2 days of agony, wasn`t worth it as the food was rubbish, just a meeting of family, so as usual beans on toast and a tin of soup was my fare.
Sun Chicken breast, Mon Lamb mince for a shepherds pie, in lieu of the forecast warmer weather if I have to go out I will get some salad, make the shepherd and freeze it.
Shepherds pie got shelved into the freezer, I had already defrosted the lamb mince, so made the base and froze cooked for cooler weather, got salad bits and a gammon joint, 4 in the freezer but not defrosted.Do I need it or just want it.1 -
Out: some old quorn nuggets languishing in the back of the freezer and waffles.

I have so much in the freezers. I try to keep it organised but fail miserably so I'm trying a new approach.
One of the drawers is full of food that has been cooked, labelled, put into oblong freezer dishes and abandoned for at least six months. I counted how many containers I had in the drawer - total 21, I;ve got mince, casseroles, braising, and pies, mainly turkey, venison, pork plus some fish. There are also some puddings so my new approach is to only live out of this drawer until it is empty and to only shop for things needed to enable me to use said food.
So I took out some cooked braising venison and let it defrost only to be told that by my DH that he only wanted something very light to eat - ie: omelette. - I've failed at the first hurdle!!!2 -
You haven't failed at all @zafiro1984 - it will be OK in the fridge until tomorrow and you can eat it then.2
