I just wanted to mention that cans could be opened, used across more than one dish and then frozen - crumble mix goes very well with a combination of canned and fresh fruit, for instance.

Also frozen meat joints can be defrosted, split, all cooked and then frozen in their cooked state.

And if there is no room in the freezer, soup can be kept going by reboiling every day

I was rather lazy yesterday and made the turkey casserole with a packet of 'sainsbury's chicken casserole mix' which was tucked away at the back of a cupboard plus the usual vegs in the slow cooker. It was surprisingly quite nice but there was a lot of liquid left over. So today I chopped up a few more veg, diced the turkey, turned the slow cooker on again and we had the remainder for lunch as soup. DH commented - something he very rarely does. Maybe I've stumbled across a lazy way of making tasty soup. I may just have a look for a couple of other mixes next time I'm out.

OUT: piece of cooked brisket and some cooked skirt, chucked it all in the pot with some frozen veg, will add pearl barley later, will consider some dumplings too, cold weather food.

I used up coconut sugar (acquired from DD's uni house share at end of year) in flapjacks/ cakes etc - used half the normal sugar I'd use and then some coconut sugar. Was particularly good using it up in flapjacks. I used a tiny bit of molasses in flapjacks, too (and then gave in and threw it away eventually! :))  Golden syrup in flapjacks, too (flapjacks and fridge cake/ rocky road are my go-tos for using up all sorts of stuff! )

Cherry pie filling - make individual/ mini pies and freeze? Or a medium pie with half of it and then freeze the rest of the can of pie filling.
