I really want to start living out of my freezer again. I usually buy meat in bulk from my butchers and have my bottom drawer absolutely rammed with meat. And in August I bought a new freezer that by litres is bigger than my old one, but has one less drawer, and so I'm constantly running out of freezer space.

But I haven't helped myself with this situation, as I've been getting Gousto Recipe Boxes since July for new ideas and so nothing in my freezer/cupboards ever gets used and these Gousto boxes are designed to try and help reduce food waste but I'm throwing more out that I buy for the weekends when I'm not having a recipe box.

I've been saying for a few weeks now that I'm thinking of packing it in with the recipe boxes due to wanting to save money, but I think I also want to start living out of my freezer again and actually having some room

  • My OH and I are doing this challenge as well and it's going okay so far. I'm embarrassed to say that we have a WHOLE drawer in our freezer ... filled with bananas :o

IN: left over pasta from yesterday (two plates but both not completely full)

OUT: 2 bananas, oat milk (finally used up!), strawberries, yogurt, coffee (which I didn't like so we won't repurchase that one), 2 clementines.

I need to start posting again. Over the last two days I've reorganised the freezers and defrosted two of them. I have two 6' tall freezers with drawers and one very very large chest freezer plus a freezer under the fridge in the kitchen. The one in the kitchen is used for open packages and bits and pieces.

One of the tall freezers just contains uncooked fruit and vegetables and it's absolutely full - I couldn't get another blackberry in it - it's all the surplus from the veg plot.

The other tall freezer has milk, bread, anything bought from the supermarket plus anything that I've cooked and frozen. I'm a huge fan of 'cook three - eat one, freeze two' It saves me so much time and i quite enjoy having loads of things on standby. This one is almost full.

Freezer 3 - the chest freezer has uncooked meat and fish. I'm pleased to say it it's about 95% empty. It just has one large frozen turkey, some smaller pieces of turkey, a small piece of pork, some venison mince and braising venison, some cod and some prawns (my luxury)

Turkey and venison may sound expensive but I grow my own turkeys, My DH provides venison and game birds for the year and I swap turkey for pork and fish from a friend.
We have a very very strict rule in this house - whatever my DH provides I have to use, the moment I fail to process something eg a pheasant/rabbit he stops shooting for the year -
you very quickly learn to respect what has been provided.

    Today
In 3 x turkey stew with dumplings - leftovers from yesterday. I'll probably turn them into soup for lunch in this cold weather.
Out - tomato soup, small pieces of breast turkey to make my version of KFC, but using turkey instead of chicken for tea. veg, pk of plums, one swiss roll base, needs a filling of jam and cream when it's defrosted.

Enough said - I need to get out and do some work.
  • So today we had:

    IN: salad
OUT: 2 clementines, 2 quiches, yogurt, 2 chicken drumsticks, soup and left over pasta from yesterday!
