I need to meal plan more, it tends to end up being whatever I can get quick just lately.
    OUT: Fish
IN: Popping to B&Ms later for a few bits but nothing planned for freezer, which is all I monitor. In New Year will try and clear some space in cupboards as well.
Do I need it or just want it.
  • OUT: fried okra, black eyed peas, shrimp

Pamdish, what are you going to cook with the oxtails?
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Milesavemoney I just slow cook with carrots parsnips and onions, plus a generous splash of red wine.
Visit to shops not as planned, called in Morries to get some points added as I forgot to hand in my voucher Monday, saw the whole salmons had been reduced to £5 a kilo so picked 1 up, last year they were mostly unavailable, and when in very small.
IN: Whole salmon which I will portion, lge y.s. brisket joint I shall cut into 4, 1 y.s. crispy half duck, and 2 y.s. pork shanks.
Having a coffee then will portion and play freezer tetris.
OUT: After tetris was only a marginal success, I have chicken stock to use, will cook with dogs chicken thighs later, bacon pieces, in pot now with some grey peas, parsley sauce, used last night.
Do I need it or just want it.
  • In: Half a loaf of granary bread from local bakery
Out : 1 pack of bacon for dinner last night, bag of 6 chicken thighs for curry tomorrow (eating out tonight)

I harvested rhubarb, strawberries, cherries, and raspberries over summer; a handful or a bowlful every few days. I cleaned / washed / cut / froze them in sandwichbaggies. Now, every time I feel like it, I make a small put of 'jam': 1 baggy of rhubarb with 1 baggy of other red fruit and a bit of sugar. I eat it in my breakfast yoghurt with homemade granola.

I like this way of making jam/fruit stew, because it doesn't overwhelm me, and I need less sugar. The stew gets eaten within the fortnight.
