Keep thinking that I am "lacking" choice from the food that I already have but always keep finding something suitable. Will try and wait until next week for anything new. Been given five (edible) Xmas presents early to use so these will help.

    (Good luck CRANKY40).
  • Hello Cranky  welcome aboard.

My “use-don’t lose” cook-in resulted in some more portions going in the freezer = mushroom soup x 2 and leek & bacon quiche x 1, SC marinara sauce.

Out – streaky bacon, veggie pizza topping, potato wedges, spinach, kofta meatballs, soups for lunches = minestrone, broth, pea & ham

Used up – leek, portobello mushrooms, cheese

Thanks for the welcome and enjoy being eaten out of house and home for the next few weeks caronc.

Bedlam here today. I was out most of the day taking my friend who is having chemo for her christmas present shopping. I made the HT pasta (storecupboard) with meatballs and tomato and basil sauce (both fridge) and I had rhubarb crumble number 2 with the remaining custard (so used up). 2/3 of the way through the HT's dinner the cat staged a spectacular collapse that involved dropping everything and heading for the vets. The vet thinks that the cat has thyroid issues. The HT had a ham and cheese wrap to make up for the dinner he didn't finish once we came home and I just ate my previously hot crumble and custard cold.

Nothing in because nothing will fit. Out of freezer - one piece of cod for the cats breakfast tomorrow. Yes I'm spoiling her but she's proper poorly. She's 8 years old and I promise you she's never had cod for any meal until this week.

caronc - Thanks for letting us know.

Seven days to go for me regarding when my next (food) grocery order will arrive. Of course, there are still the local shops but not presently the desirable weather that would "tempt" me out. Keep finding all sorts from previous food "stocks" at home still.
  • Just put 3 portions pork casserole in freezer but have just bought a vacuum sealer so want to get the chicken breasts out of freezer, cook in SC with veg etc all day and then seal them to refreeze as ready meals and hopefully take up less room. Also have taken 4 small beef joints (1/2 price As.a joint cut into 4 smaller ones) out of freezer and vac packed them, 2 smaller ones for me and the other slightly larger will go to dd and ds as part of their family Xmas gift which they can have after the big dinners are over if they want. Want to vac pack everything now to hopefully make more foom in freezer - less air.

I vacuum seal all my meat and fish, but prefer my veg free flow, open freeze on trays then tip into bags, Lidl have bags on sale at the moment, cheapest anywhere.
Do I need it or just want it.
  • Over the past few days
    In = bread.
Out = sausage & bean chilli, potato wedges, mushroom soup x 2, lentil soup x 1, 1 bratwurst, black pudding slice and lorne sausage slice.

I’m still plugging away and getting fed up of the amount of sausage I have to get through – all because lid! had an offer couple of months ago – but needs must.

Inventory has been updated and with what I have left to use up I could be doing my defrost on boxing day – just in time to fill it with leftovers :D

    Soup Portions = Minestrone x 1, Celery x 1, Leek & Potato x 1, Lentil x 1
    Meat/Fish = Chicken Breast x 1, Bratwurst x 1, Lorne sausage x 1, Cooked Prawns x ½ pkt, Beef stew x 1
Fruit & Veg = Stewed Apples, Blueberries, Raspberries, Avocado, Broad beans, Chips, Peas, Spinach.
