I am not keen on frozen veg in general (apart from the roast beetroot which tastes okI did have to buy the tomato puree and balsamic this week - will try and make sure I use them in other recipes.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/roastbeetroot_72797I decided to do fresh tonight with a mushroom bolognaise recipe'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'

That recipe looks good! What kind of mushrooms did you use? I expect something like shiitake would give a nice meaty texture for the carnivores.
The balsamic beetroot recipe looks lovely, will try that recipe :T
I need to go and dig some more up before the ground freezes up possibly later in the week.
I used portobello - I've never tried shiitake, maybe I should? Also maybe the dried porcini mushrooms might be good to add a few for flavour (though not sure if they are quite expensive?).
Def recommend the recipe though. All the Abel & Cole recipes I've tried have been good so far and I find them really useful for using the veg box contents in ways I hadn't thought of.0 -

I got 250g yummy fresh organic chestnut mushrooms for £1 in Sainsbos, Friday.
OUT freezer
Last of the gluten free fish fingers and potato waffles used by OH and yesterday chicken quarters (going in Romertopf for dinner tonight).
OUT larder (moved to fridge lol)
Tiger Tiger gluten free brown sauce (current offer 2 for £2 Sainsbury's). OH sez it's like Daddies but I'm not so keen. Not been able to find organic brown sauce, out of stock everywhere.
My Daylesford cook book still not arrived in local bookshop. If I had gotten it online I would have had it by now and saved money too.
However I did pick up a signed by Hanif Kureshi uncorrected proof of his book The Buddha of Suburbia today
How's the Christmas shopping going ? I've got lots ordered for 20th and 23rd, found the Christmas cards, done more than half OH's presents but stuck on MIL and mother. <sigh> My mother wrapped up everything I've bought for OH so far on Friday. OH is better at wrapping so he will do hers and MIL's.
Just done an Ocado order for next week saved over £16 .. never get that kind of saving trawling round Tesco/Sainsbury's.0 -
What I thought was breaded chicken was actually cooked liver - dog had that.
No Freezer movements to note.
We had chicken + roast potatoes + HM stuffing balls + HM Yorkshire Puddings + roasted red onion/white onion/tomatoes + gravy for dinner.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Florenceem I sympathise with you, I never label my freezer stuff so end up sometimes guessing at the contents. I once had so many unlabelled items I used to get one packet out per day defrost it, and work my meals around it. I learnt my lesson about defrosting it first as I once put some frozen gooseberries in a casserole thinking they were baby onions - not good.
Freezer movements:-
out:- nothing as I bought a joint of beef at the weekend.
in later today:- several portions of pumpkin and parsnip soup as I have a pumpkin that needs using (cost 10p just after Halloween) and I need to do something with the last of the apples, not decided what to do, maybe chutney as I have quite a lot of onions, or several crumbles or freezer apple mincemeat as we prefer it to the stuff in jars. I'll see how the mood takes me.
Exciting day today I think my DH is going to install my brand new Esse Ironheart woodburner/cooker in the kitchen. They moved it yesterday from the workshop where it had been for over a year, weighed a ton, they had to use the tractor and forklift but at least it's in the kitchen, they now have to work out how they can get it off the pallet and onto the hearth. Can't wait to use it :j:j0 -
Not much movement over weekend, nothing in and just a roll or two out. Had dinner out on Saturday and I ate at work yesterday, husband and toddler ate at my parents.
Today nothing in and out was 2 chicken breasts for breaded chicken burgers and 1 portion HM soup for husbands lunch.0 -
In to freezer - nothing.
Out of freezer - pastie.
Oh dear! Happened again - what I thought was bacon from the freezer was a small pork steak. So I did extra mushrooms to make up for lack of bacon.
For dinner we had fried off left over roast potatoes + mushrooms + tomatoes + baked beans + poached egg + HM Linseed bread toasted and buttered.

Internet still has not arrived at new house yet so on my mobile and have to use it sparingly so I don't create a massive data bill I have missed so much again Grrr. 2 days ago a home grown leg of lamb joint came out and we had roast lamb dinner and last night was the left over meat in a curry ans rice. Today out has come some fish (reduced from over £4 to 20p and a reduced cheesey leak thing.House purchased November 2013
