klbooth I have found actually putting tinned stuff on the side in the kitchen to use it up helps yesterday I used up a tin of pilchards that was BBd 2015 and I am still here
it was actually fine it had been kicking around my cupboards and just moved around when I wanted something else so I was determined to get it eaten:) I know the problem with freezers My top shelf has no drawer as I took it out because the ice build up was so much, and stuff is just laying on top of the ice now
but I will get it sorted hopefully before easter as I too am aiming for a massive defrosting session.Today's I have dug out a lamb shank which has been in there far too long and once defrosted will go into a casserole with some veg for tomorrow nights dinner.I have a packet of casserole veg to use up as well that cost me pennies before Christmas so thats getting used also. Definitely only using food already in store for me for at least another month if not more and I am only buying fresh fruit and veg for the foreseeable few weeks. This food mountain must go
:):)
Thanks Jackie, my aim is to work towards getting things out to see but am not there yet. I have a massive clutter issue, house wide really but the kitchen used to be not so bad but it has fallen the way of everywhere else over the last year or so and is honestly making my life difficult - cue lightbulb moment. It is amazing how effective my blinkers are when I am tired and short of time. I am determined to tackle it bit by bit and hopefully free up a counter in the next 2 weeks, I need to do it slow as have to address the root of the problem as I go or it just piles back. Slowly slowly, almost Feb and still working towards my goal and making progress instead of a mad panic clearing over a couple of days then back where I started within a couple of weeks.
I have identified some items that are now featuring on my meal plan and will get used, it's a start
This thread is important for me to stay on track and keep using stuff up and making room so I can play a better game of tetris.....0 -
Out: pizza.
I am a bit ashamed of how much food I have in these freezers. I really need to avoid Waitrose for at least a month and possibly longer. I would like a planned food storage with enough food for c 4 weeks 'in case' with at least 10 home made ready prepared meals for those nights when I really don't want to cook and plenty of room for the soft fruit and tomato explosion that begins in June. There are a lot of 'bargains' in there and a great deal of meat. I would be happier (and healthier) if there was a lot of fish and vegetables. I haven't even got to the home made ready meals yet there will be some interesting freezer surprises no doubt.0 -

"Freezer Surprise" was actually a meal on my meal plan a couple of years ago, possibly unsurprisingly it was not a popular item, lol. I had to stop as the family tended to hate the meal without even knowing what it was. They don't like surprises it seems..... I needed a plan B!0 -
OUT: chicken breasts, fajita seasoning, tortilla wraps packet
IN: sundried tomato jar, tomato paste, 3 packets mac cheese, 2 packets brioche buns, 3 tubs grated parmesam, 3 bags brown sugar, i tin corned beef (this is for guides so doesn't really count)0 -
My cupboards and freezer are full to the brim so i would like to join in from Thursday February 1st and hopefully only buy fridge stuff ,looking forward to the challenge ,i need to write out a list tonight of the contents of my freezer .0

I have a list stuck on the outside of my freezer which I update every now and again but I too have fallen by the wayside recently as my freezer list is dated September 2017
:) so once the freezer is defrosted I will make a new list and add to it or cross off as I go along (hopefully )

A list is my goal too, I meal plan so it is just a case of taking a number of items from the list then and making a meal to use them intermingled with the usual suspects, they will never know......:rotfl:0 -
