Cheese and bread has taken a hammering. I've been making sandwiches for me and my parents before going over to help. We're nearly there! So the second loaf has come out of the freezer as has a chicken breast for tea tomorrow. Friend's kids will be with us in the morning. My friend said she will have fed them, but as it's our breakfast time when they arrive and I'll offer them some too. Friend said the kids will have it if it's offered, but she will have fed them. I think a big batch of porridge will be on the cards, any left over we can have the next day.
Out - bread loaf, trout, new potatoes, broccoli (guess who forgot the peas), chicken breast.
Right. I need to revise February's plans and budgets!0 -
Out for tomorrow: 1 spice muffin, 1 savoury muffin for lunches.
Tomorrow I'll take out 2 Chicken and Mushroom Casserole and start the brown, red and wild rice that is about to go OOD. Will cook up a big batch and freeze for variety.Goals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o0 -
Tea tomorrow: Spaghetti bolognese - mince from freezer, pasta and tomatoes etc from cupboard.Go to the ant, thou sluggard0

zafiro1984, I ended up making a soup with the carcass and some hot chicken wings I had in the freezer from Lidl. I used some wilting sage, red pepper and the last bits of basmati rice. Not too shabby. The second portion will be my breakfast.
I could already feel the mindset change happening yesterday afternoon while making the soup. "Who would have thought I'd put spicy wings in a soup to make the chicken stretch further." It was simultaneously thrilling and fun. Easily amused, me.0 -

Jings my bucket:- I think it's called being creative, I just view it as saving money and less waste. It can be quite surprising what meals can be made from leftovers and bits and bobs.
OUT
small piece of cooked beef from a roast, I'm going to turn it into meat paste for DH's lunch but I shall call it 'pate' a more posh word
Some half cooked roast potatoes, the rest of tea comes out of the fridge.
IN
Hopefully nothing....oops almost forgot small order to arrive today so frozen peas, bread and milk will end up being put in freezer. The rest of the order is mainly fresh stuff for the fridge0 -
Hi again all... Back from my fabulous long weekend away feeling shattered but happy!!
Welcome to the post to JingsmyBucket and Robberbutton!! Also Welsh Poppy great to see your lonnnnnnng freezer audit list and 'just' another 2 freezers to go?!
As predicted OH didn't manage to stick to listed meal plan - it was NEVER really going to happen but I tried... He ended up spending around £30 on takeaway pizza, steak and a few bits and pieces. Nothing really into stock - just got what they used. I can't complain as I spent a fair bit while away although no coffee takeout with my friends having several a day - only because I can't drink it anymore as it hurts and (sadly) not because I want to save my money. Had a delicious pad thai takeaway from a market stall which lasted me two meals and I bought YS smoked salmon and salad which also lasted 2 meals. So I ate frugally and enjoyed spending my time with my friends and money on activities and having fun!!
So... It's a new month and I've joined in the February grocery challenge too as felt I was making good progress with my freezers and the GC will encourage me to keep at it - as well as keep on here. I'm quite excited by it all.
2 weeks of meal planning around my freezer contents and using up my stores but will need to do some shopping so lists written up which I will give 100% to sticking to. Although any unpassable YS will be bought if it is in the shape of chicken as my stock will all be finished this week. Eeeeeeeek!
Meal Plan for next 2 weeks:
T: freezer leftovers (me) - cheese omelette (DD) - chilli meatballs and toast (OH)
W: toad in hole - sausages (F) green beans and onion gravy (made by DS)
T: tattie hash (corned beef (need to buy), carrots, tatties, onion in a stew)
F: chicken (F) fajita, green beans (buy tortilla wraps) cooked by DD
S: chinese ribs (F), egg fried rice and curry sauce (stores)
S: roast pork, roast tatties, sprouts, brocolli, carrot and parsnip mash, stuffing
Week 2 - OH away for work until Saturday afternoon so only kids and I here
M: chicken and bacon traybake (F), carrots, sweetcorn
T: cheese and ham omelette, spaghetti hoops
W: chilli nachos - mince (F) and cupboard stores
T: sausage (F) and bean casserole with veg
F: bacon (F), veg, cheese (Fr) parcels - puff pastry (F)
S: grilled halloumi (Fr), sukuk (F), chips, salad, yogurt and tahini dressing
S: lasagne and salad
So shopping list includes:
LIDL: peppers, tortilla wraps, plain flour, corned beef, carrots, onions, eggs, sprouts, brocolli, milk, single cream, stock cubes, filter coffee, ham, radish, parsnips, greek yogurt, x2 hot choc
B&M: loo rolls, face wash, jar of Kenco or Gold Blend coffee (for my parents visiting at end of month), firelighters, matches
Morrisons: no frills fabric softener x2 (massive bottle for 44p last time bought it)
Will need to restock on a few tinned goods in the next couple of weeks so may just get them while I'm in Lidl as it saves me making un-necessary shop visits (beans, sweetcorn, chopped tomatoes, spaghetti hoops). I also want to buy some pearl barley for making soup for me at the end of the month but want to try and use up the soup supply in the freezer first.
It's great to read through how well everybody is doing and seeing those small gaps - and even some shelf space - in these freezers of ours. Thanks again for the motivation!0 -
Fishmonger had halibut, so the Casserole is staying in the freezer.
The fish is a real treat - and looking forward to it will stop the inclination for a takeaway curry which was growing:DGoals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o0 -
Hello all,
I've been reading for a couple of days and am soooo glad that I'm not the only food-hoarder out there. I definitely need to join in and reduce my stockpile. I only have one freezer but I have a lot of very full cupboards. I did a sort out and discovered 5 x 1kg bags of wholegrain basmati rice. I think I may have enough rice...
Other highlights included 4 packets of chestnuts (that everyday staple), 4 fajita kits, 10 bags of flour and 7 different types of dried lentil. I also have at least one jar of every different herb or spice known to woman (juniper berries anyone?).
I'm on a mission to be able to see space in the cupboards and not risk being injured by falling cans of chickpeas (I have about 6 of those).
Wish me luck!0 -
Halibut was worth it:D
I'm out for lunch and dinner tomorrow. Made lunch for DH. He's having one portion of the casserole we didn't have tonight.
I batch cooked A LOT of rice for freezing. Slightly over cooked but it will be fine.
Baked a lemon curd cake for a friend tomorrow. She provided the curd, I used up some of my baking ingredients.
I need to found out how many I'm expecting over the weekend for catering. I'll do some more baking as well.Goals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o0
