I too am comforted by not being the only hoarder!

I bought some more Tupperware earlier in the week to organise my food better (though that's another issue I have lol).

Out - quorn mince, passata, 2 peppers that were on their way out and a tin of kidney beans. Also defrosting a steak for tomorrow.

    In - nothing :D

Happy to be eating into stocks. My mum is bringing over her meat grinder so I can mince some pork that froze together in a big lump and won't get eaten unless I make it into meals as there is so much of it..

1 HM lemon drizzle loaf cake
    puff pastry
the rest is out of the fridge

whole jointed carcass fallow deer minus the bit for tea.

OK I know we are supposed to be taking things out of the freezer but I like to buy my meat in bulk, I have a yearly budget of £720, that's just £2 a day on meat and we eat quite well.

I don't know if anyone else buys their meat in bulk, but I get my venison on-line from a place in Wiltshire. Very lean, hardly any fat at all, beautifully packaged, and can go straight in the freezer. I worked out the price and it came to £7.92 per kilo which I think is pretty good when you look at the prices in the supermarkets (its cheaper than most beef cuts) and that was for all the joints, steaks, fillet, casserole and mince.

Wow!! Absolutely rude to have left them on the shelf at that price! I still have a pack in the cupboard from a few years back and used an even older one this Christmas just past and it was fine. Never even knew it could be frozen so - as ever - I live and learn.

Your bulk buy of venison sounds a real bargain at under £8 a kg?! I haven't ever eaten it but have often wondered about trying it. We have 2 deers that come to eat our garden / driveway here at home and I get so giddy with excitement when I see them. Hard to believe we are on the outskirts of an industrial town. I intend to make a bulk purchase from a butcher who delivers (based in Leeds) but I intend to wait until March for the delivery. For approx £100 I will have a HUGE amount of meat for meals for at least 10 weeks. We don't use a lot of meat in our cooking although do have pretty much daily - I would happily eat veggie but I would be the only one here who would do it and I'm not sure I could be bothered cooking two lots of meals. Hubby moans and moans if no meat in our meals lol... But we use 200g beef mince for mince meals and always have at least an additional portion left. I add lots and lots of veggies to everything to bulk out.

I stuck to my list at Lidl yesterday - with the addition of 2 packets of thick and fluffy crumpets (35p each). My DS came with me for company and he was really quite a nuisance with his 'I know we are sticking to the list but can I have....' question on repeat but he soon realised I meant it. He desperately wanted some 2 for £3 stationary but I said I would bring him next time and he can bring some of his pocket money with him to buy it. He very quickly changed his mind. Ha. My 2 kids (11 & 10 years) have a chore board which I implemented this January for earning their £10 per week. The difference has been amazing and small differences eg. laying table and clearing for meals, filling dishwasher, vacuuming one evening each a week and clothes into the washing basket (not draped on their floors!). But they don't get a penny if their bedroom isn't tidy at midday on Saturday. Wicked but very effective - especially as my DS doesn't take kindly to participating in activities he has no interest in (he has autism and attends a specialist school which has been brilliant but he still finds life quite difficult most of the time). This has SO helped him to realise small tasks = rewards. Yes it's bribery of course but it's beneficial...

IN: as per shopping list (minus peppers, pearl barley and stock cubes as none in stock £55.29 spent and will last for the next 2 weeks meal plans with milk and fresh bits topped up at weekend and next week. Although nothing into freezer and space DEFINITELY appearing now... Making way for my bulk meat order... I must not fill with other items.

OUT: 500g pork and haggis sausage, flour, eggs, milk, YS carrots and green beans from last week, onions, stock cube. Toad in hole with carrots and green beans with onion gravy.
Carrots, onions, tatties and corned beef out tonight for tattie hash.

NSD so far and no intention of going near a shop for rest of the day.
  • I made a start on the flour mountain today as I made bread and pizza. *Pats self on back*

Didn't buy anything despite going into aldi for batteries so feeling extra smug. Just need to be keep this up.

Doing an okay job of staying on track, though I'll be getting two trays of chopped tomatoes from my mum tomorrow. She gets them from Costco and although the same price as cheap ones supermarket ones I think they are better quality. I don't have a Costco membership so I get them from her when she visits. Didn't use a lot up today aside from the steak, some veg and bread, but tomorrows dinner is https://www.hellofresh.co.uk/recipes/grilled-aubergine-linguine-554891bc6ced6eab468b4568/ which is a cheap tasty meal that OH and I love. I'm making 4 portions as my mum and sister are having dinner with us to. Sadly that means nothing to be defrosted tonight!
