Managed to find that Sains. were selling Christmas puddings for cheap, which will help me use up the brandy sauce still in date in the fridge! :D Didn't fancy eating the sauce on its own

    Seventh Anniversary
    Out yesterday:
    - Half a loaf of rye bread
    - Portion of strawberries/nectarine/kiwi I chopped up and froze in the summer. Made into a smoothie.
    - Last bit of a vanilla ice cream tub, this challenge is tough ;)

    In:
    - Bag of sweetcorn
    - Bag of cauliflower florets
    both for meals this week.

I organised my pantry cupboard this morning (it's just one big shelf really) putting all loose treats and chocolate bars into a big tupperware. Looks much better now without all the random open packets.

Good morning, I too am trying to use up freezer stuff. Ive found a box of frozen mango and a box of frozen pineapple. Other tgan smoothies, anyone got any ideas for using up?
    TIA x

Make jelly with the smoothies, I make them with left over fruit juice and usually add any fruit that's lying around, maybe put sponge/cake at the bottom, custard on top - old fashioned trifle :)

So far, and it's only Day 3 I've not had to buy anything. I'm staying away from the supermarkets which is a first for me, I'm becoming quite enthusiastic about reducing what I have tucked away, not to mention the savings I'll make - thanks every one, reading your posts really helps.

Lunch egg on toast/defrosted mince pies for DH, - soup from freezer for me.
Tea, leftover lamb, frozen veg, HM meringues with toffee or chocolate sauce as I've run out of cream.

Hi I just posted on another thread about the depressing amount of food that I have thrown out from my cupboards that was out of date. Not just a bit out of date but in some cases years! On the trying to remain positive note I am just about to go & make banana loaf with a couple of brown bananas but wanted to ask a question about sugar? Does caster sugar ever go out of date? I have a couple of packets of icing sugar & that has Best Before dates stamped on their packets but the 3 (yes 3!) bags of caster sugar I have, do not have a date on them,
At least now I suppose I know what I have & what needs to be used up soon in order to prevent wasting even more money!
  • Caster sugar will be fine out of date, just check it's not formed a solid block. Haha.

How big is your freezer soworried?! I'm impressed! Also, you might find me coming for tea....

You'd be welcome, just give me warning what you'd like so I can defrost it :rotfl:

Providing sugar is kept dry it never goes off. I remember some 20 years after the war my grandmother having a stash, she had run a corner shop during the war.

*face palm* OH has just decided to go to lidl to get cat litter - which would have been fine had he not come back with £30 worth of really random stuff because he had a voucher...

    *sigh* back to square one

Lots of chocolate, sweets and biscuits to take to work tomorrow though, so not a dead loss (all left overs from Christmas). I have a cupboard in my office where this stuff lives - I'm responsible for postgraduate student welfare at work, so find that making them a hot drink and providing sugar when they come in to chat helps a bit. It'll save me buying cookies for at least a month I reckon, and gets the stuff out of the house.

  • I've just come across this thread which is great as I'm v low on cash right now and my freezer could do with a defrost! I've worked out a meal plan for the week, shouldn't need to buy anything apart from maybe milk and a couple of bananas.

Quick question - I've got some raw mince in the freezer which has gone brown... Should this be okay to defrost and cook or does it sound like it's gone off?
