Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two
Comments
-
Out of the freezer, 1 pack of posh sausages and 1 portion of mash. Also as DD is a bit short this week I sorted through and gave her 1 x 500g of beef shin, 2 portions of chicken thighs, a rack of pork ribs, 1 tray of faggots and a big bag of prepped casserole veg.
Into the freezer, 1 bag each of:
chopped swede
Cooked beetroot
Huge bag of sliced leeks
Whole butternut squash, sliced
White turnips
Parsnips
Sweet potato mash
3 x Sliced banana
4x Sliced lemons
4 x Sliced limes
Still have some avocados and onions to peel & freeze but will do these tomorrow.
This lot should last at least until the end of the month, if not longer.
Oh, and I pickled 6 eggs that were use by 3rd Jan as I didn't want to freeze those.
So, on balance, i now have more in the freezer than before I started this challenge :rotfl: x0 -
Exactly what Suffolk lass said maiden mum. It could be used for making honeycomb, or caramel or other things that ask you to melt a wodge of sugar too. Honeycomb is good fun to make.
9 jars!!!! I bought some of that biscuit spread stuff. Far too easy to eat! Very nice on ice cream wafers.... Which explains the half pack I have in the cupboard...
I'm helping the cause and having a couple of biscuits from the tin of half eaten packets with a cup of tea. Only one pack out of date - poor, unloved gingernuts.0 -
In:
Two frozen turkey crowns (for extended family dinner later this month). Technically they're not in my freezer, they're in my SIL's as she has a big American freezer and they wouldn't fit in mine
Out:
1pack no soak marrowfat peas
1 pack cocktail sausages.0 -

Always been available where I shop.
I have been buying full ones recently as they are not much more than halved ones, but I threw half away recently so I think I will go back to buy halves. There is only me here and I think I will save money by going back to basics and buy little and often instead. However, that will be after I've reduced my food mountain!

They sell the, here as well, though sometimes they're even more expensive than a full one, which is madness! I end up spending ages staring at them, wondering if it's worse to waste the money or the cuke :rotfl:0 -

I'd love to throw some of these items away like you often see on the television when people are starting diets, but cannot bring myself to do it.

Hello
I have been reading the thread with interest, I'm doing frugal January, and love your posts.
Was thinking about the cucumber dilemma, half or full one and what to do with the half that's left. Turned to google, and think I will have a go at making cucumber ice cream sorbetI, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

I ended up going to corner shop as needed to take some recycling up to bins near it anyway and pick up 2 plastic containers I left downstairs at old place so didn't cook my pork loin (yep its those)
I will double check though, I'd rather not use my small electric camping hob unless I have to so cooking potatoes and sprouts (not frozen ones) im guessing its ok to just put them in water in a microwave container and do them in there? I realise that way means I have to cook one thing first, then the other and then slightly reheat but means I can have the pork potatoes and veg as a good meal rather than pork on its own.
Oh and when cooking meat in the mini grill shall I put a sprinkle of olive oil over the meat with some herbs, or even that frying spray.0 -
We have half cuc's for sale and I also had binned a cuc over Christmas so bought a half.
But when i grow my own I make bread and butter pickles with a cucumber.Weight loss challenge 66lb to go /59lb's lost

Sounds interesting - something to do with them in the summer when the home grown ones start producing like mad.
Day 4:- everything still from the fridge or freezer
Lunch:- squash and parsnip from store made into soup, rolls and cream from freezer. Possibly Lemon drizzle cake afterwards as I still have a couple of lemons in the fridge. May have some folk here for lunch - if not I'll have to freeze it for another day.
Tea:- ham with pasta for me, ham/egg for DH, Jelly with some fruit for me, one apple and mincemeat filo parcel left over from the other day for DH.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - Fabulous thread, just hits the mark, and it's been a whole week of not going to the shops. :T0
