  • thanks for all your support ladies......your lovely words keep me going!!:j

So.....my washing machine has now completely died.....it's been on it's way out for months and the repair guy said it would be about 50 quid to fix.....currently bidding on one on fleabay for £37 with free collection that is much newer so fingers crossed!!

Spoke to my boss at work....it's unlikely they'll let me work part time to run the business but they may allow a career break....I have been on tax credits and if I can earn £1200 a month, they will pay me another £400.....with the little bit of child support I get then I will only be £100 short of what I'm earning now. :T

Plus I won't have to pay so much childcare so we should be ok.

I haven't heard from the job I applied for at all so it looks like this business is the way forward.

We have over 50 tenants and we need 100 to give us both a good wage....we already have the possibility of another 17 so hopefully within in a year or so we can achieve this. We have a business start up course next month so lets see how what they say......

I know its a big step and I've thought long and hard about it.....it's very scary but I need to take the risk and go for it....it's an opportunity to be my own boss, to eventually make good money and to use my skills....I've loved my community work and I still want to help people and support them....hopefully I will still get satisfaction out of doing this

  • Up at 6am for my first shift this week at my usual job.....it's half term next week here in Wales so I've got some time off then with DS.

Found a very good make of washing machine at a local refurbished appliances shop for £100 fitted which is a lot better than the quotes for new ones not fitted!! It's coming on Wednesday and I can't wait.....it's starting to look like Widow Twankees round here!!!:rotfl:

  • Hello Sleepygirl, Just read through your diary, best of luck, lovely diary and you work hard but do have a fab life, friends, job and family - you got it all going on so well done cos actually seem to have work life balance...

It is hard when it is a long haul. I am doing similar to you and try not to think about it too much because I can get a bit obsessed but I kind of just keep paying extra - planning, saving every little penny I can, about to push my overpays up and I know it will all come good even if I am an old lady when it does :)
Debt Sept 2012 £140,000 end age 65.5 (maximum) four mortgages in total
    April 2016 £114,599.83 (3 mortgages now)
Nil debt for some many years now perhaps 8. Need to save for a tent for holiday this year but nil else.
Over paying about £500 per month but fancy £600 so will have to think of some very money saving techniques...
  • Hi PP

What a lovely thing to say thankyou!!

I just see myself as someone muddling along through life!!:D
I have a naturally cheerful personality which I think helps a lot..

Good luck on your path.....I will have a browse of your diary when I have 5 as I am so inspired by other people's tales!

  • Drinking a huge mug of tea with copious amounts of biscuit dunking to wake me up for my shift!!

The washing machine comes today so I've begged a couple of hours leave from work and will be here so they can plumb it in....friends have offered to do the laundry but I'm not sure I fancy sending my smalls out to be washed!!:rotfl:I've got a bit of a backlog but DS had clean school uniform so there's no chance of him going to school in a sack!....

It was a very busy day yesterday and I have a large 'to do' list in my head already for work,.....I'm going to book a meeting for later this week to discuss my options with my big boss re going part time etc.....wish me luck!!!

Hoping everyone is still safe and dry with all this awful flooding....

  • good morning!!

Washing machine is installed and working like a dream....kettle has now blown though! I had enough points from the shopping scanning that I do to have a new one though so at least the kettle was a freebie....quite a nice posh one as well!!:D

I've had an email to say it's free listing this weekend so I'm off to do some fleabaying before work.

  • I can't believe it's been so long since I updated!

I changed over to a different broadband supplier for a cheaper deal (very MSE) and it's been nothing but a nightmare...I had no phone, no broadband for days and I still have an intermittent broadband service. I would recommend you don't have broadband etc with a company that's named after a fruit!!!!

Things are going well....we are still plodding on with the business, still waiting for permission to get on board from my work! I've been on several courses, and been doing research while I'm waiting but it is SOOO frustrating!!

I am plodding on with the OPs and debts....another debt finishes next month which is another relief.

DS has cost me yet more cash (!) ...another 2 pairs of trousers with holes in and a new welsh rugby shirt for St Davids Day celebrations in school!

We had a trip to the circus in half term, a cinema trip and friends over for lunch....fun times and I only spent £40!! (I didn't mind that at all!)

Just had a quick read (probably missed some bits) but it sounds like your doing really well. Your son reminds me of mine - silly behaviour although he has really knuckled down this year and had a really good school report (year 9). They are really expensive kids espcially as they are growing. All the best with your mortgage free by 50.

I couldn't find your thread when I looked a few days ago, thank goodness you're here again!

Just to wish you that luck for the ongoing business plans. Have you got a start-up date yet or does that depend on when / if you can sort out the part-time arrangement with your current work?

Exciting times! Hope your son has a happy, proud time wearing his shirt ... as you say, it's an extra expense but good value for what he'll get out of being part of it all (and hopefully he won't out-grow it too quickly)!

Hope the washing machine's in safely and working well for you too!

  • Hi Hbb.....I'm still here...just been a bit manic!!

Washing machine, new kettle and new sky box all working thank goodness....what a month!!

My interview with my big boss is on Friday (a week today) so that's when I will find out if I can go part time....the business is already being set up by my business partner but I can't officially work in it yet...I have been doing all the free business courses I can, researching, etc, etc until I get the yay or nay from work. If it's a nay..then I will resign by May, if it's a yay then I will be part time by May..exciting but a step that I have put huge thought into!

I've had great news in work that the credit union is ready to go...recruiting some volunteers to run it and we will be all set. It's going to be a huge asset to the community as we know loan sharks and doorstep collectors are operating frequently on the estate. We are offering a holistic approach so I have asked people like benefits, housing, the utility companies to come at the same time as credit union to help people manage their money better too....I hope it's a success!

Time for the school run now....DS needs to be chucked into the shower too!! Happy Friday everyone!!

PS this thread is turning into much less of a MSE diary...need to sort some OPs out rapidly xx
