  • So I was doing quite well and had some spare money to overpay...then DS came home with requests for £36 from school!!! I'm sure my mum used to give me 50p for school dinners etc!! He is going on his big year 6 trip away this year so hence the big monthly money requests from school...it'll be worth it, a real taste of independence for them.

So although I haven't OP'd anything else I have a running total of £70 so far and I still haven't done a supermarket shop...I have bought bread, milk, fruit and veggies locally but nothing else...I think we'll be ok until end of next week which is great....I've been using up the batch cooked meals too...we had chilli con carne/veggie curry with rice and naan bread tonight and it was lovely.

So the dog is walked, dinner is eaten, I have 5 things in my ironing basket and then I am going to put my feet up and watch junk tv to my hearts content....Celeb BB anyone???

  • Oh my goodness! It's been so long!!
So....I ended up buying the whole business as my partner wanted to leave! I have absolutely no savings left but it was the right decision! I have 20 sub contractors and a full time member of staff now! I'm still not quite up to my old salary that I earned with a job but I'm getting there!! We're growing every month and I'm thrilled!
I've scraped together the money for a week in the sun in August with DS and friends....it's the first time I've been able to leave things properly for a year so it's v exciting! Nearly at the £5k mark with overpayments off the mortgage too!
I'm enjoying reading all the diaries and seeing everyone do so well!

  • Gosh maths obviously isn't my strong point !! I've paid nearly £4k off the mortgage not £5k!! Doh!!
So I've got plenty of food here, just need some fresh and some petrol - got £85 til payday on 30th June and another £60 back up if I need it!
I've overpaid £70 this month and am hoping to squeeze another few pounds off...my penny jar is looking really full so I may need to empty that and bank it!

  • Gosh it's been so long since I posted!!!

So here is an update...I haven't been very MSE in the last year because we had a once in a lifetime holiday to Florida whilst DS still wants to be seen with me! It was amazing but was £7000 all in all including spending: it was worth every penny though!

But I'm back on the MSE trail...still overpaying my interest only mortgage ...it's down to £148,763 now and Ive cleared all but one debt...my ClearScore rating has gone up and I'm hoping to be back on top form by next year! I've got an emergency fund of £2.5k which I'm adding to and I saved for Florida so there was no additional debt!
I've overpaid my mortgage by £250 this month and Ive got cash left, DS is all kitted out for school, I've just paid for January's school trip and Christmas is paid for too! I have £600 of vouchers due to me at the end of October!

I'm so proud that I'm in very little debt and that things are looking up...I'll be able to increase my overpayments in January too..I'm currently paying £600 off a month ..the payment due is £375 and I've been Tilly tidying too!

  • Did some batch cooking yesterday after work (home made soups and chilli con carne) the soups work out as 17p a portion so they're really economical. I needed some more storage containers so I walked to Sainsbury with the dog (1 hour each way) ...the containers were on offer too so I had them for £5...so that's 4 soups and 4 chillis in the freezer.
We had really tough times 6 years ago hence why I got in a pickle and I have a mortal fear of not being able to feed us! We never ran out of food but we ate a lot of egg beans and chips! So...now I always keep 60 meals in the freezer and 8 shelves of extra food like tins in my home office...my friends think I'm nuts but it's my comfort blanket and makes me feel safe!!
I always put stuff in the food bank when I go shopping too...it must be heartbreaking to see your kids with insufficient food...
I'm confident we would be able to survive a financial blip now as I have enough savings to help us out if needs be...it makes me all the more determined to get rid of the mortgage and we never have to worry again!!
