DS and I have just finished fajitas.....had quorn with mine as I've been trying to eat more protein...it tasted like shoe leather and I remember why I don't eat it!!:rotfl:

    *delurks*

Was that the "chicken" pieces? They are a special brand of.. spongy, all on their own! For what it's worth, I find the nicer Qu0rn products to be the Swedish meatballs and all the sausages, the sausages are really tasty :)

Good luck for the job application!

and it's another 5k a year which would be very welcome!

You could always save the difference and live on your current wage? That way you have a cushion if they did let you go, or a heck of an OP if not! :money:

Totally agree, most awful stuff invented, as in made, as in totally manufactured - that's why it tastes like it does, I think!

Sounds like your thoughts about your new job option are sound planning for all possibilities ... interview practice is worthwhile even if you don't get the job and a useful extra income if you do! Fixed term is just that but there are no guarantees they will just get rid of you at the end. It's kind of your current boss to look out for you, but he / she might have only heard the horror stories and not the successes (or is genuinely scared of losing you because you are so fab at what you do, which is confidence building as you approach interviews etc)!

Edinburger's idea is also a great one - you're doing so well in your current situation, if you could ignore the extra income (if you got the job) or even just skim a little off the top to add to your current budget to make the hassle worthwhile or accommodate new unknowns the job would bring, like extra travel costs etc in the meantime, and then save the rest, you'll be in a great position for the great unknown at the end of the two years!

    Exciting times, good luck!

  • Thanks everyone....I will try the quorn meatballs and post a review!!;)

Thanks for all the positivity and the good advice too....that's a great idea to live on my money now.....if I get the job and it's another 300 quid a month then that would mean 6k in the bank for a cushion if anything happens!:D

I'm definitely gonna give it a go....been prepping the form and will complete it on Monday.....life's too short not to!

On other MSE matters....I have £34 left til payday....we should survive it, dinner money's paid, I have petrol, plenty of food (need some fresh bits)...taking the dog to the beach with some friends tomorrow....have 2ps saved for the kids to go on the arcades and we will have seaside chips out of the paper (no cutlery allowed!).
I'm determined to manage and not raid my savings.....5 days til payday though:eek:

Sounds like a lovely plan for a day out - I just hope the weather's kind to you tomorrow, we're beside the seaside and it's whipping up a right storm out there!

    Have a good one!

  • Well the job application is in so I can do no more!!

I've been plodding on in my actual job as well, the credit union starts in March as well as regular visits from the energy companies financial teams who can help people save money...I hope it's a success and that people can benefit from it...things are only going to get tighter for a lot of them.

It's my last day off so I'm having a housework morning (boo!) and then off to DS' school where I'll be volunteering for the afternoon with the PTA ...he now avoids me when he sees me in school and has asked me not to keep coming to all the trips etc!!!!:rotfl:I was quite glad because it means that I can give up PTA in July without feeling guilty! 2 years as chair, a full time job, a house to run, a Labrador and DS has nearly killed me off!!:D

  • Payday is here and I'm slightly shell shocked......£73 to school (music lessons and school trip), £50 to my friend for theatre tix (yes I know it's expensive but its my one real indulgence:D), £77 car tax .....bye bye wages!!:(

I'm still paying for the holiday so it's going to be a basic OP this month and then we should be back on track for some higher OPs next month.....

On the bright side, I had a fab £5 off a £40 shop coupon at Mr M come through the door so I have stocked up for the week for just £35.26....meal plans are
Spicy chicken/quiche with baked potatoes, sweetcorn and breaded mushrooms (this was lush, we just ate that!)
    Spaghetti Bolognese
Roast potatoes, veggies and spicy chicken/veggie bake
    Fajitas
    Sausage/Eggs beans and chips
    Chickpea and cauliflower biryani
Pasta bake, roasted veggies and garlic bread

I also bought all the usual stockpile and store cupboard stuff and they have a great offer on toilet roll....16 for £5....I just couldn't leave it there!!
