EEK! Nits - that takes me back. Making me feel a bit itchy now......

I can also recommend teatree and being very through with the comb. Also, going through by hand and picking off the eggs - very tedious but effective.

  • Thanks BM and Habiboo....I am back on the bright side of life now!! I have used the old fashioned methods that you all recommended and I can't find a single nit on him:D. Olive oil was £1 from the poundshop as was the vosene...heavy duty metal nit comb was a bit more but has been worth it's weight in gold...I will never use the chemical stuff again! School have sent a general letter and I hope the offending parent reads it and treats their kid!!

Have not long picked DS up from after school club so we are having mash, chicken fillets/quiche and some veggies and are going to watch some junk tv!!
Have a lovely evening everyone :T

  • further update...DS's teacher just came up to me and said she'd looked at the offending child's head after I emailed her and there were flipping hundreds!!!! She called the child's mum in and told her so I am really hopeful that we will be bloody well nit free for a bit!!!!:D

Am still plodding on with being MSE even though all my posts are about nits lately!! Hoping to make a cheeky little OP this week, have £40 of Xmas cash and only 3 more pressies to buy so that should be in budget. Got a few surveys etc on the go and next rest days I'm going to do a big sort out for Ebay, amazon etc.

    Have a lovely evening! xx

  • morning everyone!! Quick check in from me!

Lovely spoons brekkie with the girls yesterday morning..£4 and an unlimited refill coffee! Lovely! Nearly all the Xmas shopping is done and I had my Tesco Voucher through today...£40 off my Xmas shop which is lovely and will be spent on treats for DS and I! I'm still in budget for Xmas and this month too which is great.

Manic shift at work yesterday...I'm working to get the Credit Union up and running on our estate..we have a real issue with loan sharks and payday loans and we are trying hard to promote the use of proper financial institutions....It's an uphill struggle though. We have been helping a family of 6 who have just moved into their house and have hardly anything...I've provided furniture through a local charity but they could not help with clothes so we've all had a dig out of our attics and one of the boys has come up trumps with clothes etc for the kids. :T Heartwarming moment for all of us handing them over!

Enjoy your Saturday....I'm off on afternoons xx

  • Had a great day at Xfactor yesterday....went a bit over budget and spent £25 but that included food and the tube so I don't think it was too bad! Had a bit of a wave at Gary...not sure he noticed but we were only 10 feet from him!!:D

Having a house blitz and a chill out today...have only spent 50p on the paper so I'm redeeming myself from yesterday!!

Off to have a gentle walk with the dog now and will be having another tilly tidy this afternoon too!!

What an amazing thing to do. I'm sure you will help so many people. :T

I would love to know more about the mechanics and in and outs of this.

  • Thanks BM

We are attaching ourselves to one already running as I think it would cause problems on the estate I work on if local people were put in charge of their neighbour's money. Our office is going to be open once a week specifically for the credit union as there is nothing on the estate to facilitate them to save and only things like the dreaded Provvi loan or payday loans to borrow from.

The hard part is persuading people to use it though...years of not having to budget, not having to pay your rent or manage your bills is all stopping now. There are no crisis loans, universal credit will be monthly and they will have to pay their own rent out of a monthly budget and it is going to be a huge learning curve for many people.

I save with a work credit union and I think they are marvellous....it's just that I now have to persuade my residents too!!;)

  • I heard a speaker at a training course recently talking about the monthly budgeting side of universal credit. He specialised in welfare benefits law, appeals and so on and said that he is expecting a massive increase in the number of people who literally run out of money and end up with pdl and worse because they have never had to budget. Really worrying and I bet there are hardly any resources for teaching people about it all and the new skills they will need.

Sorry, that turned into a bit of a tangent! What I really meant to say was I think you are fabulous to be doing something to really help. :)
