Should the spend limit on comps go up?

I appreciate what people are saying but I still do not see the issue with it personally, if it is clearly marked then whats the problem?

I still feel some level of common sense is needed in these things, say someone goes and buys a £2 item to try and win something, they might well, but then they may already be sending 10 texts at the current limit - you have to give an element of freedom in this imo

The board is a moneysaving board but you can make a case for a lot of the forum, take the Grabbit part, you could argue that it encourages people to purchase things they do not need as they are discounted. These people may not be able to afford it but feel its too good to miss out on

Its an interesting debate but in the same way I tend to not enter those with Effort in the title I would be unlikely to if it said £3 box of tea bags required etc but it would be my choice, in the same way it would be if I texted competitions - which I do not

    I've gone for £2.10

The limit could be tied to an external figure so that it gets changed automatically. I suggest a third of the National Minimum Wage, currently £6.31, which would make it £2.10 this year!!!

I also think that comps where you buy something (like a bottle of milk/pop/beer) should be allowed, but "pay to enter" lotteries/raffles where you get absolutely nothing unless you win should be banned.

It should be unlimited amount as its totally up to the comper whether they choose to pay to enter a comp, not a website to say 'we dont agree'.

MSE's advice is about money saving not about making laws and rules about the comps.

I personally never would pay more than £1 or so just to enter a comp unless it was something i wanted to buy, but it would be nice to find out about comps which may cost more than £2 spend..

You could even have a seperate comp thread called 'COMPS WITH SPENDS'

    No
Voted no as I don't think "pay to enter" should be on here.

But this is not the same as a product purchase necessary to enter and I think there should be a distinction made between the two and a higher limit set for purchase required competitions, just a box of tea bags can easily cost more than £2.10.

Copy below of what I put on the other thread,

I don't think the limit for pay to enter competitions should be raised.

However purchase necessary comps should not be lumped in with "pay to enter" ones and stopped at the same limit.

Just glanced at the Freebies (low spend) section and some involve buying magazines at £2.60, £3.60, £3.99, paying £2.50, £4.90, £4.99 P&P etc all to get the "freebie" (highest was buying wine at £7 plus a stamp to submit the claim). I don't know if there is a set limit on that board but don't see why the comps section should have a limit any lower than the ones posted on it.

(Not over keen on them myself)

I voted for the max increase because I would do away with a limit entirely. I like the idea of a 'spends' board. My take is that we police the scam/spam comps anyway, so would continue to do that for spends comps. Some comps charge a fee legitimately to contribute to the prize - as in a lot of short story comps. I see it as a co-op thing, rather than gambling and feel we should have the freedom to decide our own spending limits individually. I wish this could just be trialled to see if it would lead to problems or not.

Thank you Andrea and MSE for listening to us, and being innovative enough to consider changes.

If the £1.53 doesn't go up, in a few years all postal comps will be banned due to the cost of a stamp :)

I have voted for the £2.10 as it gives a bit more scope for purchase comps.

I've voted £2.10 because I think a comp costing any amount should be included, it's up to the individual if they want to enter or not.
Like someone else said, there are sometimes great comps on things we may already buy but they cost over £2.

I do think it'd be a good idea to have comps with ANY money/purchase required to be on their own thread, a sticky at the top like the dailies are.
With the amount of money needed having to be added in the comp title so people know at a glance if to click or not.

Thanks MSE Andrea for setting up the poll. There are a lot of valid points made but I have gone for the £2.10 and believe I am responsible to decide to enter or not. The many lottery posts might not have been posted (although purchase allowed before the price increase) and wouldn't do in the future.
