Now then snakey, you know I luv ya, but I don't agree with that, twice:

    1) "If it's free to enter it's fine." It ain't necessary so, bro.

    2) If you have to pay to enter, I don't agree that it's a lottery. In fact you can have a free to enter lottery :p But if it's a judged comp, I don't see how that could be described as a lottery.

Not that I'm against lottery ones anyway. I'm with Tranmere. I don't enter those comps, or payday loan ones, but I wouldn't want to stop others from entering them if they [STRIKE]have no moral fibre at all[/STRIKE] choose to (only kidding folks)

Edit: I lied, I do sometimes enter lotteries, but very rarely.

This may help you understand the difference between raffles / prize draws and lotteries.

Here's another little kitty to flurry the feathers - is there a difference if the competition's free, though you should buy the product, and where you need a till receipt to prove purchase? (You mean, someone would dare to scribble down a code off a Tesco shelf...?? What's the world coming to!!)

Seem to be in nitpicking mode tonight.

Main reason I'm mentioning this is that all the Lotto comps recently advertised only required a ticket number, the competitions themselves did not require purchase of a lottery ticket. If a friend had bought a ticket, you could use theirs, whatever price they paid for it. Similarly for any product eg if a comp required a serial no. off a TV, but no proof of purchase, and a friend had bought one, no cost is incurred when you enter.

Of course, if it comes to that, you could also use a friends till receipt for the other kind ......

I agree the way to go is to have a separate gambling forum for people who want to buy lottery tickets etc. where they get nothing but a piece of paper for their £2 spend and the vain hope of winning something.

We are not talking about a limit of a "mere £2" but £2 per entry, per competition so gambling rather than comping would be a more accurate description of these pay to enter prize draws.

We could have sub forums on how to stop gambling, how to get out of debt caused by gambling and how best to encourage others to start gambling, using the promise of huge potential wins to make them part with their cash with little real hope of any return.

The rest of us could then carry on comping on this forum and those demanding the right to promote gambling and take others down a potentially destructive path would have their own forum, with no spend limit, and everyone would be happy. :)

I think it's probably best if no comps are posted that you have to spend money on.

We have some saying it's not very MSE - others saying they'll enter whatever.

Why not stop all spend comps (either purchase or text / call cost) and put them in a separate forum.

And, for the record, it might be a money saving site. but it encourages me to spend with such good deals :p
    Thanks to all posters :A
