I just wonder if this is the fuss of the engagement imagine the wedding and the fuss there will be over that and the plethora of little things that can go wrong......

Op, its clear you love them and are excited, but its time to back off and remember the lessons he should have learnt as a child at your knee, that the best laid schemes of mice and men often go awry ( apologies for anglianisation Burns fans). The outcome is, presumably they are still in love and getting married and have a funny story, which is SO much nicer than....everyone knew but her. Which is a bit creepy in the context of the other behaviours frankly.

First World Problem? I'd say so!

That's I think a good point. Op, if you guys feel on reflection perhaps an overreaction has been made ;) why not save face a little by asking the store to make a donation of the agreed discount to a charity of your choice?

That way Daniel and Michelle can start their married lives with a new sense of perspective and maturity and reflection. :)

    We all overreact sometimes.

I think you're probably right. I was so angry with the way they were treated and their complaint brushed aside as if it were nothing.

Goodness me! No one died or was injured - in fact, your son is about to have the happiest day of his life.

People make mistakes - it doesn't sound like it was deliberate, although admittedly disappointing.

Expecting several hundreds (if not thousands) of pounds "compensation" (I hate how this country is going the same way as the states) is absolutely incredibly unreasonable IMO and a knee jerk reaction.

And a VERY surprise miracle in March 2017!

It happens, and good for you for recognising it.

But seriously, please, please listen to the advice, as hard as it is to hear. However much you are helping them and invited, its probably time to stop and let them fight battles like this, or even real ones ;):D on their own.

Its wonderful you are close and relied on, but to stay close, boundaries are really, really valuable.

There complaint really was not 'nothing' but is it really so big in the scheme of things? Is it even in the top ten of bad things that have happened in their lives? If so.....seriously, REJOICE!

Even the title of your thread is What can WE do.

Isnt this about your son and his girlfriend? as in, What can they do?

I think if I was Michelle I'd be seriously concerned at the prospect of a MIL who has such strange ideas about boundaries ....... And also appears to think its ok to discuss me in such an identifiable way on a public forum. Location, working abroad in specific and reasonably unusual location as well as first names ....anyone who even knows them slightly now knows their business. I think the ring may be the least of your worries OP. Get a grip before you end up with a serious problem.
