The whole idea of big surprise proposals baffles me anyway, but getting mummy to go on the warpath because it didn't go perfectly is a great way to make it extra special I suppose!
This'll teach me to keep sticking up for the 'youth of today', maybe we all are useless after all.0 -
Dimey - you forgot the classic trip to Covent garden in the winter...
Nice thing about Hatton garden is you can haggle
To the OP - you must accept that the 'groupthink' is that you've expected too much compensation. I know it's a massive blow, because you've put so much expectation on a 'big surprise'0 -
Even the title of your thread is What can WE do.
Isnt this about your son and his girlfriend? as in, What can they do?0 -
These little glitches in life are what memories are made of. Daniel and Michelle should be able to laugh about it years down the line. Adopting a sour attitude an trying to bleed the jeweller dry for a simple human error will not do any favour to anyone. And to be honest your involvement in this speaks volume over how you have brought Daniel up.0

Person One - Does WE mean you are a youth??
I could have sworn you were an oldie. Ha Ha.
Cor - where are the romantics when you need them on a thread!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Any more posts you want to make on something you obviously know very little about?"
Is an actual reaction to my posts, so please don't rely on anything I say.0 -
I wouldn't expect the ring for free but would be going elsewhere and buying a new one.0

Ps surely it's traditional to ask the brides father ????
Hopefully most men would know whether their future fianc! would adore or abhor this tradition. I personally find it offensive that anyone would think my father should have veto over who I marry. I make all the big decisions in my life.
OP, I'm sorry the surprise was ruined and I agree that flowers might not be enough, depending on how expensive the ring is and the fact that a jewellery store should know better. However a free ring is ridiculous and means that they won't take you seriously.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -

I'm roughly the same age as Danny Boy and Michelle, maybe a year or two older, you are not the first to assume I'm a middle aged grump though!
You know, when people ask why I'm still single I might start showing them a printout of this thread so they know what's actually on offer!0 -
Pity Daniel didn't have the wit to tell his GF he'd ordered a c0ck ring and planned to surprise her..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I'm being nosey, and wondering what kind of ring it was that it would count as being the compensation for ruining a surprise0
