Ruined engagement surprise, what can we do ??

Maybe such a detailed post with names is meant to shame them into this resolution, I can understand the annoyance though as I would be furious0

If your son isn't old enough to deal with this himself, then he's not old enough to get married.0

This might be the funniest thing I've heard all day and it's made me smile on a long day in the middle of a long week.
Thanks OP. Now it's time for you to return to La La Land.0 -
Also, if your son is about 28 (guessed from the description) you seem to be doing quite a lot of hand-holding on this issue. (I sorted all this stuff out myself when I proposed at 26). I had the good sense to let my fianc! pick her ring)
I'd agree that naming individuals directly on MSE is likely to lead to trouble
I took a look at their website, and I hope you haggled. I compared a near identical wedding ring to mine, and unless palladium has doubled in code in two years, then that shop isn't good value0 -

To be fair though they only said 'the ring is ready', it was the girlfriend who guessed it was an engagement ring.
I think Michelle should be made to buy her own ring as punishment, thus saving Daniels money.
Happy moneysaving all.0 -
Don't forget you'll all need counselling too, to get over the trauma! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Seriously, get a grip. After ten years I hardly think it was a surprise, anyway. If I were Michelle I'd be more annoyed at Daniel for asking my father's permission. And at my husband to be for letting his mother interfere, doesn't bode well for their future .0 -
You want the ring for free?! Is this a joke? I think although it's an unfortunate situation and they have obviously ruined the surprise it was obviously a mistake and i think an apology and flowers should suffice. Also not sure why your son is getting you to do all the complaining for him as it's him who is the customer?0

!!!!!! - it's a proposal. Surely the outcome is the same regardless of how it happens? Yes it's a shame he'd got it all planned and it's gone tits up. But such is life. If this is the only thing that goes wrong for them in their upcoming wedding and marriage they are damned lucky.
I have reported this thread purely on the fact that you've named people. I suggest you remove the name of the shop people involved.0 -
I really feel for your son, his big gesture is partially ruined, but he can still go ahead with his plans and his girlfriend will love it nonetheless I am sure - she will appreciate the thought he's put in.
However, I think wanting a free ring is a big much to expect - mistakes do happen and though regrettable, we need to move on from them. I think their offer of flowers and a discount is more than generous.0
