Ooops.... Thank you for pointing this out.
  • I'm not a senior but I have respiratory disease that puts me at risk of the flu so I have to have the flu jab.

I had mine October this year, and the following days after, felt really ill had almost no feeling in the injection site arm had pains in the lower lumbar of my back and had a sore throat, this is nothing unusual to me after the injection except for the lower lumbar spinal pain.

fast forward about week, urine infection started, sorted with some pro biotic yogurt and cranberry juice and it cleared after 2-3 days later.

then 4 weeks later, sore throat again with splitting sinus head ache and lower spinal pain, painkillers helped it again with pro biotic drink and cranberry juice.

and now....I have a kidney infection, this is not uncommon for me after the flu jab, but my asthma nurse flatly denies any relation to having the flu jab.

trouble is my medical records reflect that I do tend to get allot of kidney and water infection post having flu jab as I have to go on a course of antibiotics because the symptoms of the kidney infection (being common cold like) affects my chest, so im prescribed prednisolone antibiotics salbutamol intake is upped and salbutamol nebulizers are increased with my preventer.

I skipped last years flu jab due to the persistent infections I had that were really bad I was ill from oct2012-feb2013 with infection after infection and also had allot of skin issues to go with it, and during that break of not having the flu jab feb 2013 till oct 2014 I had no infections at all.

now ive had it again because my wife caught flu went to the doctors and I went with her, my asthma nurse heared my wife say to me she had a touch of flu I was then corralled into her office for the jab, and now im back to being completely useless with infections.

does anyone else, have this issue after the jab? feels like its only me!
My gp and nurse say its just a co-incidence because the season its administered loads of infections are flying around, but my point is that I hardly ever go anywhere to catch an infection.

No, but surely you are within your rights to refuse the injection, and to give it to you against your will would be an assault.

DH is mildly asthmatic and is recommended to have it, but never does. On the other hand he is very rarely ill.

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm type 1 brittle asthmatic, and my asthma nurse is somewhat adamant that the jab is good for me and reluctant to hear any negatives that may arise with me from the flu jab.

If it weren't for my wife having a touch of flu I wouldn't have had the jab, I have had flu induced pneumonia in the past that almost killed me, it attacked my lungs and heart and I cardiac arrested in the hospital infront of my children and wife and the experience was unpleasant for all, and funny enough I had had the flu jab for the first time 1 month prior to that episode.

I have had pneumonia inoculations since then 3 times to build immunity to it, and blood results now show that I have a good defense to pneumonia, I would recommend those jabs to an asthmatic anyday pneumonia isn't fun to have for an asthmatic.
  • I've had them every year since 1999 when I was diagnosed with Diabetes type II.

It has never given me the flu.

I went with DH and because he is 70 he was offered the Shingles jab to, which he had.
  • Our health centre had a couple of weeks in October when you could just turn up between certain times.
Just had a letter as I didn't go. I am supposed to reply Yes or No.
I have never had the flu jab. Have had flu twice in my life when I was young. As a teacher I was exposed to many germs but never caught flu. I guess I have built up immunity over the years.
The only germs I seemed to catch from the pupils were occasional colds from those who had just been abroad. DH was the same, he only caught bugs from the boarders from Hong Kong.
As the flu jab cannot immunise you against new strains, I don't think it is guaranteed against all forms of flu.
I haven't found a reason to change my mind and have it this year.
Hoping I don't regret it, of course.
DH feels the same and he is more at risk than me.
  • Does anyone know if the flu and pneumonia vaccines are still made from egg cultures?
  • so have I - but I do wonder how effective it is if you are in good health and are not likely to come into contact with large numbers of people - or children.
