I had one of those, waste of time it didn't stop me having pneumonia last year.
It isn't a 'pneumonia jab', it's a pneumococcal vaccine, which protects against a pneumococcal infection.

As I understand it, a pneumococcal infection can lead to meningitis or one type of pneumonia, but there many different types of bacteria and viruses that can cause pneumonia.

So, no, it wasn't a waste of time.

In that case they should re-name it, or issue a warning such as 'Don't catch pneumonia as this only works if you catch the right type' though most people are not sure what that is and cannot be selective.:D

one cannot warn against every occasion of reader ignorance. It behoves you, the individual to take personal responsibility for your health and to understand what you are getting, what it does and doesn't do. If in doubt, ask.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

You obviously didn't take notice of the smiley in my tongue in cheek post.

As I have been and still am suffering from a very serious illness which has necessitated several spells in hospital and now repeated clinic visits for checks, I shall ignore your rather ignorant remarks about being responsible for my health and understanding the treatment I have been receiving.

I had to cancel my flu jab clinic appointment. Now need to phone and find out if they have any vaccine left, and if they're arranging another clinic. If not, I need to find a pharmacy offering them, but the ones I've seen advertising them all seem to have appointments a long way ahead, and I don't know when I can commit to because there's a lot of other stuff going on (hence the cancelled clinic appt) which makes forward planning tricky ...

  • Resurrected this thread to say I have had my 2014 flu jab today. Whilst there, I was asked if I wanted a pneumonia jab. They are available to people of 65-ish (I am not 65 until January), and I presume older. You only have to have them once. I had mine in the opposite arm to my flu jab.

So, if you want one and it is not offered, ask. :)

    Hope this helps.
They are also available to children under 2 and anyone in at risk group

I've had mine cos I work at GP surgery, remarkably painless this year and no achey arm.

The Pneumo is offered to those who will be 65 by end March 2015

also at risk groups of any age
