How do you meet on facebook? That always puzzles me.
I already know my facebook friends.

Facebook includes groups to discuss topics of shared interest: I currently belong to groups relating to the French and Spanish languages; to radio documentaries; to left-wing political activism and to discussing modern novels. Members share ideas in this virtual public space; discussion ensues, and that can lead to private one-to-one electronic conversations. I have met several friends in this way, although none of them (yet) have become romantic partners.

I met my OH via a forum, and made few friends through there as well. We also know/have known other couples that got together through it too.

We have an alternative version of the how-we-met story as well, with older relatives and the like who wouldn't understand about us meeting online we say we met in the pub one evening through mutual friends. It's true, it's just the mutual friends were all from the forum as well and the pub outing was an organised meetup!

I met my hubby on a dating site - been together 8 years and its our 4th anniversary in a few days. :)

I think its becoming very common - I know a few couples who met that way now.

I know two couples who met on dating sites, one who met on a forum, both have been married a good few years now, and honestly have forgotten the number of couples I know who met on twitter. I met my ex on twitter, we were together two years.

Me and my OH started talking on a dating site, both got back with our exs, fast forward 6 months, I followed him on twitter which made him text me, found out we were both single again and went on a date the next week!

I met my husband on ebay i joke he was going cheap but it was actually in a ebay group that only had about 20 people in it. 2 other relationships came out of it. They are all still together as well. We were friends for a good year before anything sparked. Been about 7-8 years since first face to face meet for us i think. Would never have met if it were not for ebay.
  • I met my husband through the dating website Dating Direct. We've been together for 9 years, and married for 7 years now.

He was the second man I met through that website, the first I went on a couple of dates with and I would describe as "interesting" ;)

My husband met a few girls before me through the site but they had been rather economical with the truth when it came to their descriptions.

I was about to give up on it when my husband sent me a message, even though he didn't have any profile picture (I had made an unwritten rule to delete any messages without a picture as they invariably seem to be nutters!) there was something about his message which intrigued me and the rest as they say is history!

We have never kept how we met a secret, but we don't go out of our way to tell people either.
We decided not to tell my grandmother how we met as she wouldn't have understood it and been worried about it. We told her we met through friends (not entirely untrue as we did have some mutual friends and we may have met at some point anyway!)
But she found out at our wedding the truth and was fine about it.

I wouldn't hesitate in recommending online dating to people, I got the chance to talk to my DH for months before meeting and felt like I knew him really well before our first date.

Hubby and I met on Love@Lycos

We've been together 11 years in December and married for 5 of those.

We tell people that's how we met, nobody's fainted in horror yet :D
