I know. I work the hours because I love my job,I'm proud of my store and I have built up a loyal and strong customer base, many of whom come in regularly to see me. They've followed my progress following my accident, seen my staged return when I could barely walk - I came back to work part time on crutches between my ops! They spend a lot of money and I know I'm successful.

But if they want to sack me they are not worth working for, and really putting my health first think I should be finding a less demanding job.

Just wish it wasn't like this.

You are the sort of employee some companies love.

But I suppose after the disciplinary you will see how much that counts for.

Sorry for sounding stressy. That makes sense now. Thank you. I'm just all over the place.

I thought I was doing so well to be back at work, managing the extra workload, sort of working through my pain, feeling finally like I belong!

I was putting the hours in because I want the store to succeed and to get the job done. Why would I give so much to risk my job for £10!!!!

The problem for the company Monty is that they don't know it's just for £10. You could have been doing this twice a day every day you have worked there. Just saying you haven't isn't enough. You need to think about if there is a way you can prove that it was a one-off. I daresay you acted out of character on this one occasion because you were very tired, very stressed, and suffering either from pain or the effects of painkillers?

You shouldn't blame the AM for dobbing you in. In his eyes you misappropriated cash.

But then again, he does stand to gain quite a bit from the whole situation.

He'll get to work such ludicrous hours instead...

Possibly not - there's no guarantee he'll get the job. It's just as likely (I'd say more so) that the company will look outside for a new manager and he'll have even longer to wait if he wants this specific role.

OP sorry to dig this up again but I'm unclear of how the till balanced.

Was your transaction on the same receipt as work post? And how would petty cash balance if you did put the money back? Surely it would have been up due to the receipt evidence.

Did you actually see the receipt? You don't need to answer the next question but £10 straight is a strange amount to spend to sent post, was this done via recorded delivery? Can you see where I'm coming from, it could look like your personal post was either that heavy or sent via special delivery that the reason your giving (forgot your purse) could be unacceptable as it's not as if it was the cost of a 2nd class stamp which could be seen as an oversight.
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

One point in the OP's defence that shows that the AM knew that they planned to pay it back is the fact there are two receipts.

Why did the AM get a separate receipt for the OP's package?

If the OP had planned to use petty cash for their own parcel, surely it would have been easier to have all the mail together and hide it on one receipt.

It does not get round the fact that procedures were breached but it does show that the OP probably did intend to pay it back and more importantly that the AM was aware of this fact.
  • And they would have taken the post there themselves...presumably.
