If you are not christened you will not go to heaven
Or is that just an old wives tale ?

Will tell you when/if I get there.

With that I don't care where I go when dead... as I will be dead.

With that mt body is to be donated to science, they can take any useful bits and use the rest for medicals students to carve up.

But why would you want your child to go a roman catholic school if you wasn't roman catholic (to which you would have hadd your children baptised).

With that is there a central record anywhere?

    The OP's question was

    Hello All,

I attended a Christening recently that was very nice - the parents were Catholic - and was wondering, what happens if a child is not Christened ?

Does this prevent the child attending certain schools, or getting married in a Church when they grow up ?

Quite often parents want their children to attend a Catholic School as the standard of education is higher than other local schools.

Quite simple, its hypocritical to send your child there, I wouldn't dream of sending my children (if/when I have them) to a place they get a religion pushed at them on a daily basis unless I believed in said religion.

Personally, the idea getting married in a church, having to sing all these hymns is a nightmare to me. It just delays the booze-up.

'Apparently' (or so I heard) my grandmother-in-law was very upset we didn't get married in a church. My husband is once divorced and apparently it's very very difficult nigh-on impossible (especially if you don't know the vicar) to get married in a church once divorced, plus the fact that although I'm christened I really couldn't give a toss about it.

I also don't get people who only get married in churches because it 'looks nice' and don't have any religious basis for doing so. How can you make the promises in your marriage vows to an entity you don't believe in?

Exactly the point, as our marriage was in a hotel all the vows where to each other exclusively and nothing to do with anybody in the room or anybody who may or may not be watching from above.

Similarly with Catholics, if you want to get married in a Catholic church and only one partner is Catholic, you must obtain permission from your local Catholic Priest. Any couples wishing to marry in a Catholic church must have gone through a marriage preparation course, and you must preform the marriage under Canon law, else your marriage is considered invalid.

In the eyes of the Church, maybe, but your marriage would still be legal according to the state laws.

It depends on the circumstances of the divorce. It also helps if the previous wedding wasn't a church wedding.

my husband was married previously and we found it a problem to get married in a catholic church because his previous wedding had also been in a church. They said that because it was a Christian wedding then the divorce wasn't considered valid, only an annulment would be. However, our local CofE church couldn't have cared less.

In regards to schools, my local catholic school states quite clearly that they give preference to children christened into the catholic faith.

Because of the demand for places, being christened isn't usually enough. The school would also expect evidence of regular attendance at church.
