I was christened as that was the done thing, do I ever acknowledge it or belive in any religion... not at all.

I didn't get married in a church so all is good there.

I will say I do see it as wrong when parents get children christened when they aren't practicing christians themselves, you just end up with many children like me with meaningless christening, a waste of time for all those involved.

I do agree with this post - I was baptised as a baby, as were all my siblings, because it was the done thing (but in our case my parents were members of the church and regular church-goers, so fair enough).

I hadn't been to any church for Sunday service for donkeys years when my daughter was a baby (and her dad is Muslim) so when my mum asked if I was having her baptised/christened, I said no, because neither of her parents would be actively bringing her up in the church.

No-one has ever asked me if I was baptised/christened, including when I've been godparent at christenings/baptisms (twice so far). No-one has asked me the question anywhere else, and no-one has asked for that information for my daughter either.

We were all baptised and it was a good thing too as my now ex hubby had not been and it put our wedding at risk in my parish church. Luckily, because I had been and because I promised to keep him on the straight and narrow, the vicar allowed it but it was very eek for a time there (we are talking nearly 24 years ago though). For me, it was important to get married in church, on religeous grounds.

All of mine have been baptised to allow them free choice when they are ready (or wanting) to get married and in case they or their future spouse would like to get married in church....they have been free to chose their own path though and I have ended up with 2 atheists and 1 agnostic!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

My parents chose not to have me christened.

I was refused an official candle / status as a god mother at my friends daughters christening by the vicar!

Yet he was happy to christen the child to the parents who were not married!!

I was fuming ! And very upset

You can get married in your local C of E church whatever your beliefs, or lack of them.

That is what I thought, I don't think that a document is signed or certificate issued (like a marriage certificate) at a Christening ?

I have no idea but I asked my friend this who had no idea either & she said she was planning on saying her husband lost the certificate if they were asked.

I don't really get why people who don't go to church get married there or have christenings though.

But that has nothing to do with whether or not you've been christened, you can still attend church and practice catholicism even if you haven't been christened.

OP, nothing will happen, in most churches you can still marry in the church, your children can still go to church school as long as you meet the admissions criteria and you can still be a godparent. There isn't even a compulsory official register of christenings for any one to check whether or not you have been.

As for a churchyard burial, they're all so full nowdays many don't have new plots and the only chance you have of being buried in many are if there is already a family plot.

Fluff15 is correct, if you haven't been baptised you will find it difficult if not impossible to gain entry to many Roman Catholic Schools ;)

You can attend Church but for obvious reasons won't be able to receive communion, confession etc etc

Should add that Baptism is only the first step, many schools will insist you have been confirmed, and often require a letter from your local Parish priest, if you don't attend Church often that letter won't be forthcoming.

For weddings, probably so it looks nice in the photos, bloody hypocritical and disrespectful IMO.

Christenings, I don't know, family tradition, not worth the fallout of not doing it perhaps, or just cos they want a nice excuse for a party and to show off their baby? Just as hypocritical and disrespectful.

But why would you want your child to go a roman catholic school if you wasn't roman catholic (to which you would have hadd your children baptised).

With that is there a central record anywhere?

You shouldn't have a problem in Accrington... even if you have a beard.
