  • I was christened as a baby, however to get married in church I was asked if I had been (and needed the certificate/parish details)

I also needed to be christened to be a god parent.

My children aren't christened yet, but plan to have all 3 christened next year even though we dont actively attend church etc.

Anything that might arise as a result of not being christened can be easily fixed by being christened!

There's no upper age limit, and its better to let people decide for themselves when they're old enough anyway, rather than labelling them as a certain religion as a baby.

I know that our local Roman Catholic School gives priority to Catholics, then the rest of the admissions are done on who lives the closest.

Similarly with Catholics, if you want to get married in a Catholic church and only one partner is Catholic, you must obtain permission from your local Catholic Priest. Any couples wishing to marry in a Catholic church must have gone through a marriage preparation course, and you must preform the marriage under Canon law, else your marriage is considered invalid.

A client of mine is a catholic diocese, which is why I know all this - I'm not Catholic myself!

But that has nothing to do with whether or not you've been christened, you can still attend church and practice catholicism even if you haven't been christened.

OP, nothing will happen, in most churches you can still marry in the church, your children can still go to church school as long as you meet the admissions criteria and you can still be a godparent. There isn't even a compulsory official register of christenings for any one to check whether or not you have been.

As for a churchyard burial, they're all so full nowdays many don't have new plots and the only chance you have of being buried in many are if there is already a family plot.

I think there is if you're Roman Catholic, rather than CofE.

You can't be a godparent if you haven't been christened. Well, in the C of E, not sure about the rules elsewhere. Not everyone will check so some people will get round that but technically it is a requirement.

  • Pretty much we'll end up not going to heaven. Us that choose not to be christened, have hell and da-mnation awaiting us, apparently. My Parents thought it right that I wait until I was in my teens so I could make my own decision, a decision that I made, based on the number of new cars in the car park of thier Church.

Wifey has not been christened and is a god parent to a child christened in a Catholic Church.

You can, as in some vicars won't check (as I said) but the rules clearly state that you need to be baptised to be a godparent.

I was christened as that was the done thing, do I ever acknowledge it or belive in any religion... not at all.

I didn't get married in a church so all is good there.

I will say I do see it as wrong when parents get children christened when they aren't practicing christians themselves, you just end up with many children like me with meaningless christening, a waste of time for all those involved.
