my prices are a fair bit higher than a lot of my competitors, but because I run my business well and do things right I still sell plenty.

You are clearly anti Ebay, thats your right but on this thread you are basically encouraging the habit of defrauding Ebay and thats just plain wrong.

It's simple, if you choose to sell on Ebay then you accept their fees, don't accept then find another way to sell your goods.

I disagree ... you're paying a listing fee. That gives you national coverage. The extra 10% is unjustifiable.

What do ebay know about a sweaty pair of trainers?

    your getting boring now.

Ebay don't need to know about any products, if there is a problem they will provide a mediation service putting the buyer and seller together to discuss the matter, if no agreement is reached Ebay will then make a decision, normally based on fairly well published rules.

you brought Auto Trader into this claiming they are comparable to Ebay, would they provide this service? simple answer is NO

it's not unjustifiable, it's their profit. THEY ARE A BUSINESS!!!!

They can charge what they like to use their services. and as said before if too many people thought they where too high then alternatives would be better.

I brought AutoTrader into this as one of the most successful means to sell a car on the south coast to someone in Scotland ... for only the cost of the advert.
AutoTrader are not car selling GODS based on a well published set of rules. They do the job you ask of them ... to provide national coverage. End of. There after you deal with the person on the other end. there are small claims courts, solicitors etc ... and not just ebay GODS in their ivory towers built upon heaps of money.

Why do you keep saying this? ITS NOT EBAYS FAULT THAT THERE IS NO COMPETITION.

    YAWN.

I'm off to bed now. i've got to get up early in the morning to prep a load of stuff to take to the post office. Stuff that i've made a nice profit on and sold easily on ebay, Stuff that would have taken me much longer to sell for the same profit elsewhere!

There are ways of doing it without Ebay, much cheaper ways than Ebay, they are just slower and less predictable. I know that a combination of ways works best for me. But i'm happy to pay Ebay the fees they ask for in return for the general ease of sales and transactions. Time is money and in general Ebay selling is less time consuming than a lot of others!

Ebid springs to mind, you know that failing alternative to Ebay because they don't advertise and have no buyer base!

Hardly Ebay's fault that what should be a major competitor is so totally useless!
