Yeah i get it now. But i was saying if i sent him back something old and then told ebay i cancelled the transaction , sent stuff back but havnt got my refund it would really go downhill for him. So its abit of a risky thing to ask for on his part. He is basically putting trust in a complete stranger.0

Actually, by accepting you'd have no comeback if something was wrong with the trainers and, as already said, the seller wouldn't have to pay fees.
Also, there are reasons to cancel a sale other than because the buyer has accepted a refund. Such as the buyer no longer wanting the item. If ebay found out they wouldn't be happy with what he's doing, but I'm sure the seller would come up with some excuse for why it was cancelled and you wouldn't get a penny back as you agreed to cancel with resolving any problems.0 -

Ok i accept this bit, but wouldnt it work both ways? Say i sent him any old rubbish back, got a postage receipt and demanded my refund? What would he do then? Btw im not going to accept because its quite unfair.0 -

Not if you already agreed to cancel the transaction. However, if he agreed to a refund upon return then obviously the refund would have to be dealt with first. If you sent him some old rubbish back he could refuse to refund and he would have to appeal if ebay saw in your favour (which would probably be the case if you have tracking).0 -
I refused and he messaged me back offering £1 thru paypal if i accepted. Hahaha.0

To pay £1 to save £4 (or recover £3) is good business sense.
Why are people so keen to line the pockets of ebay? Haven't they got enough money already for hosting a shop window?0 -

Firsly, like the fees or not, thats the cost of doing business on eBay, and to attempt to thwart paying those fees is theft.
Secondly, if you need to avoid paying your bills in full in order to do business, that is NOT good business sense.0
