Joining this thread rather late, because...
I spend nothing on wine as I don't like it at all!
(it's just too stinky )

Nothing could convince me to buy wine in a restaurant ever. They get the cheapest crappest wine at like £3.00 a bottle and then charge you about £15.00 for it. A total and utter rip off.
I'm not a drinker full stop as I think alcohol is rubbish. However if I had to buy a bottle of wine, I would get something around the £4-5 mark and look for a special offer like a reduced bottle from £8 down to £4.0 -
Because the more expensive one is nicer.
It's like saying if you could enjoy yourself sitting on the sofa with a friend and a glass of water why ever go anywhere or do anything?
Really, I bet if there was 10 rubbish wines and 10 expensive ones all jumbled up the majority of people wouldnt know the difference. Its a total and utter scam the whole thing and plays on peoples snobbery.0 -
For cheapo supermarket wines, this one is lovely and has won awards:

Another vote for this Temranillo - actually I've never had a bad red from Aldi, but this is my favourite.Anyone seen 'Sideways'? One of my favourite films
Brilliant film - I'd quite like to take a trip like that myself one day....I buy my reds from Naked Wines so get a pretty good choice, but stay around the lower £7 level.
I've been getting my reds from Naked Wines for years - excellent service, reasonable'ish prces & they do have a guarantee in place to swap any wine you don't like free of charge (excluding delivery I think). Not that I've ever had a wine I didn't like from them. Probably says a lot about my drinking habits :rotfl:
I seem to remember the Coop doing a decent red some time ago with an elephant on the label but can't remember its name.
Never touch white, & rarely eat out so can't comment on restaurant prices.& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Hi, I Usually spend about £5 on a bottle of wine, but one that was reduced from ~£10.
My best one recently was the Hardy's Legacy - can't remember if it was Shiraz or Cab Sav - Tesco had a deal on for £5 for ages. Beautiful wine
I have a Naked wines account so pay £20 a month into it, but 2/3 times a year I get some really lovely wines at around £7-9 per bottle - worth doing I think
We rarely eat at restaurants as I love to cook
For my hubby, who hates the taste of alcohol but likes to feel drunk, we buy the 7 day Solomon peach kit - ~£8 for 5-6 bottles :-)Final cigarette smoked 02/01/18
Weight loss 2017 28lbs
Weight gain 2018 8lbs :rotfl:0 -

The majority of people probably wouldn't. The majority of people who buy wine for its taste would.
Not all wine is for necking behind the high street - most good wine is an accompaniment to a particular food. So it might not be anything special of its own but with a particular meal it's out of this world.
That's what some inverse wine snobs don't understand.0 -
I'm a huge fan of chillian and South African reds , and horrors of horrors I drink them chilled most of the time
I tend to stick to the 5 to 7 quid bottles at home and really scrutinise the special offers in supermarkets as they usually are as false as their other offers One red in particular Roko is always being sold as half price at a fiver yet I've never seen it more then 8.99
In a resturaunt I wouldn't bother going with more then the house red but then I don't frequent fine dining places either
Lidl wines are usually good for price They allow me to try a different wine without breaking the bank.0
