How much do you spend on Wine?

If buying a case from Virgin Wine I'll pay between £6.50 and £10 a bottle. I've got a great independent wine shop near me called Theatre Of Wine where every single wine they sell has a hand-written card next to it telling you what it's like and they will not stock anything they don't think is decent. I've paid from £7 to £42 for wine there and been happy to support a brilliant company.0

The simple answer - not as much as I'd like, and far too much in the eyes of my MIL.
If you're going to drink wine, I'd suggest anyone spend a little more to get a much better bottle. Also, support your local independent - you'll get a more interesting range, fair prices (i.e. none of the £10 reduced to a fiver for 9 months in every year) and you're helping keep them in business.
As for amounts, at the moment we have 1 bottle at £15-£20 a week so that she can have something nice for her 1-2 maximum recommended units per week, while I get the rest of the bottle. At dinner we try and match something appropriate (always avoid the second cheapest on the wine list) so it depends on the restaurant. Most I've personally spent in a wine shop was £50 or so for a single bottle, but within our friends group wine club we've done some exceptional and high end wines, including Krug and Cristal.0 -
Also look for special offers in Supermarkets and sometimes the dining offers which come with wine.
Restaurant around £20 up to £30
Recommendations - Casillero del diablo from Concha y toro and any South African pinotage, are my choices for red. For white sancerre0 -
Pinot Noir is often lovely. And nicest is often chateauneuf du pape. Can't go wrong with that. Rioja can be heavier, Temparillo can be lighter/easier to drink.
Let us know if you need any help with pronunciations!

Thank you for your replies.
My boyfriend loves red wine a little too much & on average spends around £70-90 on a bottle when eating out. He thinks this is normal so I was interested to know what others thought!
I will look into some of your recommendations0 -
I'm a cheapskate ! Aldi have a lovely Spainish Temparillo called Toro I think,Its currently about £3.69.
Only drink at the weekend with a meal. Its our only little treat and would be the first thing to go if we have to economise....0 -
let me know if you have found any decent bottles of red wine in the supermarket that you feel beats more expensive bottles:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I know nothing about wine so it would be a waste for me to spend more than a tenner on a bottle. I've recently been trying out some of the Aldi wines, because people have been saying good things about them, and so far I've been impressed. My own preference is for rose wine because red just tastes like vinegar and white just tastes like shloer.
I bought one of these last week and it was lovely:

At least as good as the Jacobs Creek or Hardys rose wines that cost at least double.0 -
I try to pick up something on offer (half price if possible) in the supermarket so usually pay around £5-£8 for a bottle. I prefer Merlot (Isla Negra is pretty decent for a supermarket wine) and Chateaux Griviere Medoc is very nice“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
