Send your friend in to apply for the job. If she gets the chance to, she can explain why she's qualified for the job and the qualities she'd bring, and also have these points written into an application letter. She hands them her cv and letter and tries really hard to do her best to get the job. If she's lucky, she might even persuade them to take her on, if she wants to work for them (not sure I would...). If, on the other hand, she doesn't get a job offer, then send in a (not especially super butch) male friend in to 'apply' for the job, and make sure that his 'cv' has a broadly similar range of qualities and experience, ditto the 'application' letter he drops in. If he gets a job offer, then, presumably, there's further evidence of sexual discrimination, in addition to the A4 job 'advert' on the lampost, and valid grounds for complaint.
Its not about getting the job its about getting the interview really which I guess is maybe what you meant.

  • I was at work this afternoon when i stepped in to the office, which is a mixed male/female environment.

I couldn't believe my ears!! I heard a female co-worker say with reference to a male co-worker ...... "typical male". I found this greatly offensive!! I felt a sudden urge to complain.
But it didn't stop there. No. The male worker retaliated. He said "silly woman".

I didn't know what to do with myself. I thought the entire universe might implode due to the sheer sexism filling the room. I braced myself for a moment for what was about to follow....

....but then after a few seconds passed i realised ......... the world kept on turning & everyone around me was getting on with their lives!!!!!!!!!!!!

There wasn't a supplement in the weekends paper last weekend. Do you think taking it up with Downing Street would be going too far??

So women should be allowed to work for NASA but not for the local chippy?

I don't think discussion should be out of bounds because it's "only" a job at a chippy. Men and women should have equal access to any job unless there is a good and lawful reason.

Even better idea.............Get a dream job with NASA and get someone from the local chippy to deliver your dinner :rotfl:

Derek Bok - "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance"
  • Why would any of the drivers get mugged? how many chippies (except Chinese) do you know that deliver? the job looks more like they want a bloke who can lug big bags of potatoes about from the cash and carry / wherever and bring them back to the shop.

It may also be worth pointing out that this job is in Cobham, hardly a centre of gangland violence ...

s-g may be right though, if they want THAT kind of delivery driver (or some of that kind of shifting stuff around) they may not think a woman is up to the job.

Though that, I am sure you would agree, doesn't make it a genuine occupational qualification to justify the advertisement.

Oh, I agree absolutely, I can see NO genuine occupational requirement for this at all, and as I said, if there IS one then it's generally included / explained in the job advert.

I'd suggest that the OP's flatmate could suggest the chippy owner advertises via the job centre, they'd soon put him straight, but I wouldn't wish the responses on any employer ... (I've advertised there a couple of times, once a few years ago, and the responses were useless. More recently my manager suggested we try them again: responses still useless, PLUS we had to have several 'discussions' about our GOR, and the age restriction we had to impose [and explain in the advert] because the job involves driving.)

As for homosexual rape (random attack by complete stranger), is it statistically lower because it happens less or is reported less?

It's a very slightly higher figure than lesbian rape.

I think you need a sanity check.
