Bad Drivers

There just seem to be SO many bad drivers on the roads at the moment, it's infuriating!

1. The safe stopping distance is about 2 seconds. Time it - it's quite a long time! If I'm driving at 60mph and can't even see your headlights in my rear mirror, you are far too close, so don't be surprised if I take my foot off the gas and slow down!

2. The national speed limit on single carriageways is 60mph. Not 50mph, and definitely NOT 40mph. If you can't drive at somewhere near the speed limit in good driving conditions, you should re-think the whole driving thing.

3. It is illegal to use your mobile phone whilst driving!

4. Why is it that those that meander along at 40mph on a 60mph road then do 40mph through a 30mph limit too??

5. If parked cars are on your side of the road, then you need to give way. Putting your right indicator on then putting your foot down, particularly in a 30mph, then waving to thank the poor driver who had right of way and had to abruptly stop is not acceptable!

Rant over. I just think it's about time people saw driving licences as a privilege and bad drivers were removed from the roads.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    LOL I agree

Also your rear view mirror is not meant for you to apply your lipstick especially whilst driving and or stopping at junctions/lights etc

Just because the speed limit is 60mph doesn't always mean it is safe to drive at those speeds, it is a limit, not an aim! Also NSL on single carriageways is 50mph for a goods vehicle and 40mph for anything above 7.5 tonnes.
    .

Some of the things I do agree with tho. Here's another though. How about,

    1. A red light means stop! Not carry on through even though the light turned red 5 seconds ago!
    And,
    2. A yellow box means do not enter unless your way is clear. The amount of people I see sat in the yellow box waiting for the lights and blocking all the road up near me is unreal

    A few more:

    6. If you're turning left out of a side road, you need to look both ways, not just right, before pulling out. Traffic on the main road has priority including overtaking traffic. I nearly got hit by some numpty a few days ago, he was turning left out of a side road as I was overtaking a parked car.

    7. At mini-roundabouts you give way to the right.

    8. When turning, indicate! Even if the signs force you to turn - because that won't necessarily be obvious to everyone else using the roads like pedestrians or oncoming traffic. I nearly got run down crossing the road in the town centre by some numpty turning left without indicating - her excuse was cars have to turn left there (straight on was buses only), but I couldn't see the signs from where I was!

Agreed - but there are also a lot of people who don't understand the exception to that rule ie if you want to turn right and are blocked by oncoming traffic you can wait in the yellow box. Which can cause massive delays at some lights, as far fewer cars get through on each lights change.

Had an older gentleman (not what I was mentally calling him at the time) this evening following me for about 5 miles on country roads home - every time someone went past him the other way with the dipped headlights on (rather than not on or sidelights) he flashed his main beam at them - catching me in the rear view mirror. I can only surmise that he thought they had their main beams on and was flashing them to turn them down - why the penny didn't drop after about 30 cars I've no idea. Seriously needs to rethink if he's capable of driving after sunset.

Sorry I missed that bit. The one near me is about 150 yds from the lights and is at the top of a road for a busy haulage yard. Traffic builds up from the lights, sits in the box and the big lorries turning into the road can't go anywhere blocking up the whole road right back through the lights!

Of course you are aware that if the oncoming car, with the cars on their side of the road, has already committed to the overtaking procedure whilst you are approaching, you must give way.

Because there seems to be a lot of people who are not.

And my favourite is stupid motorists who don't understand Highway Code rule 170, that pedestrians have the right of way when crossing at a junction you are turning into.

Just as bad as the yellow box idiots are the ones who block people from getting onto a roundabout because they are in a traffic queue.
Vans and lorries are the worse culprits at a nearby roundabout, heaven forbid someone might get in front of you if you leave a gap and never mind the poor souls who want to get on and go a different way.

What do you class as a goods vehicle? Van, pickup? I class a lorry as a goods vehicle, and that is 40mph.

Ohhh, I didn't know the 40mph thing for lorries over 7.5 tonnes, but to generalise, my reference was towards cars doing 40mph on bits of road that are perfectly safe to do 60 mph on I.e. nice straight wide bits!
