So what? If you want the law changed, lobby your MP. Or should we all just ignore any law we don't agree with?Blackbeard_of_Perranporth wrote: »I can understand the sentiments here, but the limit was set by Babara Castle, in 1967. This eorson never drove and car safety features were abundant by the absence.
Today, the speed limit on motorways could easily be increased to 85 mph. Only idiot groups like brake say otherwise.
Besides which the speed limit isn't really the issue, I don't care if someone wants to go 85 or even 100, as long as they don't expect me to have to slow down (by pulling in behind cars/lorries doing 60-65) to allow them to do so.0 -
and how is it unsafe for them to only do 40 ?
its not unsafe, its only more convenient for the driver behind so they can go faster.
if both cars end up doing 40 down the road, then surely thats safer all round ?
its certainly not less safe to go slower
If we want to go really safe.
We may as well have a speed limit of 20mph and have all cars with limiters on them.
I did not say it was not safe to drive at 40mph. I said they are incompetent if they can not drive at the speed limit when conditions allow and they have a half decent car.
When I did my test I was expected to drive at the speed limit if the conditions were suitable.
This still appears to be the case when reading below with people have more recently passed.
Not sure if it is still the case. When I have been towing many years ago. When quite a few cars pulled up behind me. I pulled over to allow them past when it was safe to do so.
If some one wants to drive slow. Fair enough, but allow others to pass.0 -

Unless there is a minimum speed limit in force, the vehicle in front is entitled to go at whatever speed they like (up to the speed limit of course
). If conditions allow, you can overtake them. Otherwise you have to wait and not get worked up and angry.
I have noticed that younger drivers seem to be taught that they should drive at the speed limit, and doing "40 in a 60" is bad. Not sure when that came in but it wasn't the case when I was taught to drive.
Why would anyone want to increase there journey time by a selfish person driving very slowly infront of them?
Its not like they are holding just me up. By the end of the road they have like 30 cars behind them.
Also that kind of driving would not go down well on your driving test.0 -
Hi
One really annoying thing is the Tesco entrance, there are 2 roundabouts you have to go round to get into the car park, on the first one, you have to turn left, and on the second one you have to go left to go to the petrol station, and right to get into the car park. But, what is really annoying is when people do not cancel their indicators after the first roundabout, so when you are pulling out of the petrol station on the second roundabout, which is on the left, lots of people do not cancel them and go straight on when indicating left!:mad:
I have seen several accidents there, where people drive into the side of people when they indicate left, don't cancel and go straight on, and hit the innocent person who is pulling out!No Loans, No Debt, and I want to keep it that way! :money:0 -

Just because another vehicle is indicating to turn doesn't mean that they are going to do so and if someone pulls out in front of such a vehicle and gets hit, they are not totally innocent.
You should only pull out of a junction when you are completely sure that it is safe to do so.
http://findleys.co.uk/highway_code/road_junctions.htmlTake extra care at junctions. You should
not assume, when waiting at a junction, that a vehicle coming from the right and signalling left will actually turn. Wait and make sure
I will be the first to admit that I do sometimes pull out when I see an oncoming vehicle indicating, but only if I think that I can do so without being hit if they decide not to turn and knowing that if I do have an accident, the chances are that I will be held liable.0 -
People who clearly don't like driving at night time breaking everytime someone on the otherside of the road is coming towards them.
Cyclists who go through red lights.
And finally the one who annoys me the most?... motorbikes!!
Think Bike!? Think bloody car!!
I'm not supprised people get knocked off them. I was in the second lane slowing down to go round a roundabout and 2 motorbikes coming from the opposite direction jumped out around the cars. Had I of not breaked heavily I would of knocked at least one of them off. Not a happy bunny.0 -
Pedestrians have right of way by law.
Drivers who go through puddles and splash pedestrians when they could have safely avoided the puddle or slowed down before driving through it.
Milton Keynes dwellers - think the indicator stalk is a free back scratcher.0 -

That's not the case. The charge of careless driving covers unnecessarily slow progress or excessive braking.0 -
Bit like a couple of the plums at work who ask why I "need" to drive a car with a "huge" engine.
I was recently told that "they" should not make cars that go faster than 70mph. I thought about explaining a few pertinent facts to them but concluded that a glassy-eyed smile followed by a quick exit would be better all round.0 -

tbh I think all cars should have their speed limited to say 85mph. it just seems stupid that people can buy cars that can do 150mph
