Their supply chain is not dependent on products near to their sell-by date. This is a long-standing myth which JDW have denied for years unless you have evidence to the contrary.
I'm only going by what I have been told by a manager at Wetherspoons. I think it is mainly with beer that they do this.0 -
And would you or your friend actually know??
My daughter works in a pub/restaurant, but doesn't know anything about the beer orders from the brewery.
Why would this ruin anyone's reputation?? The beer will still be within date when it is sold, and is still fit for consumption. Wetherspoons have massive buying powers, and 100's of outlets. So they know they can sell the beer within the sell by date. And if you are getting perfectly good beer, within date, and for a low price, then who is going to complain??0 -

So the answer to the question of whether you have any evidence to back up this claim is "no"This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

He would never specify what, just he knows more than anyone else about everything (I suspect he's quite young! 20's or early 30's at most). But there seems to be many flaws in what he often comes out with.
What he says needs to be taken with a massive pinch of salt.
That just shows how little you do know. :rotfl:
I'm 43, and have never claimed to be some high flyer in retail. But I do have experience in various sectors.
And if you mean a discussion/debate when you say 'run in', then maybe you should evaluate if forums are right for you. The idea of forums is to discuss/debate issues, not insult people just because they don't agree with you.0 -
Not sure why the smoking ban should make it smell of BO or stale.
Unless you mean you were happier when it smelled of BO and stale cigarette smoke. Yuk!
No thats not what I meant, as someone else said, the smoke smell used to mask the smell of people's body odour.
If Id said I was happier when it smelt of stale cigarette smoke Id have said that. Theres also no air con and they hardly ever open any windows so the pub is stuffy.0 -

Also how do you think any brewer is going to survive making that much overstock?
In any industry that produces on the scale of the large breweries there will be a large amount of overstock. It is far better to sell it to Wetherspoons cheap, than to pour it down the drain. Most smaller chains wouldn't be interested in beer that was getting close to the sell by, because they couldn't guarantee that they could sell it.0 -

How about claims beer is sourced just before it goes out of date?
Procurement’s job is to allow the business to continually offer great value. Myths have evolved about selling late date drinks but it is just that, an urban myth. We are able to offer top and emerging brands an exciting and high volume shop window. Our role is to communicate to suppliers the value and impact Wetherspoon can offer – ‘building success together’ was the theme of our recent supplier conference.
In many drinks categories the success and marketing of Wetherspoon means it significantly outperforms the sector. Although we have less than 10 per cent of the total volume of pubs in the UK, we sell significantly more than 10 per cent of all the real ale in the trade. Yes, because of value, but also quality – 97 per cent of our pubs are Cask Marque guaranteed. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Why would my friend make it up, especially as they still work for them?
You are saying that this is true and the only source you have to back it up is an unnamed "mate" who is "claimed" to be a manager of weatherspoons.
All your posts have been to the affect that this is fact.

And your point is??
Do you believe everything large companies tell people openly?0
