Wetherspoons

A couple of weeks ago, myself and a friend decided to go on a bus ride and ended up in Lancaster. We then chose Wetherspoons to have a bit to eat.

Due to the toilets being downstairs, i enquired about the disabled accessible toilet, due to a large table being in the way, only to be told it was closed due to work being carried out the night before and was still unfinished. I had a chat with an assistant manager and he suggested emailing the company, i could tell he wasn't happy about the situation either.

Anyways, yesterday i got a letter that they'd done their investigations, and the toilet was indeed usable and I'd got it all wrong.

How does a large table and 2 members of staff telling me, make me get the wrong impression??? I only wish i was mystery shopping this day.

Needless to say, i've emailed them back disputing that i had got it wrong. I am really annoyed about it tbh.

Rant over
just passing through.... Nothing to see....

Did anyone else realise that at Wetherspoons a small coke is dearer than a full breakfast??

I've also had trouble at Wetherspoons regarding access to the disabled toilet.

On two occasions - at two different venues - I've been told "We can't find the key for the disabled toilet"...why do they have to be kept locked??

Imagine the outcry if the non disabled toilets were locked with a missing key!

Wetherspoons have also been poor in response to a complaint by me previously. In fact they seem to have gone down hill a lot recently. They used to have loads of offers on drinks etc, now hardly any. The food also seems to have gone downhill in quality. There used to be a special meal and drink deal every day, now its only 3 times a week. Also my local one is in dire need of refurbishment, its falling apart at the seams.
    Tim Martin are you listening!!!!!

I have never rated wetherspoons pubs even the quality of their beer is dubious sometimes. I'd rather go to a pub where they actually look after their beer and customers.

I've been told by someone who used to work in a Wetherspoons that they keep the disabled toilets locked for three reasons:
    1. to stop other people using them, in order to keep them clean for disabled customers.
    2. to stop people taking drugs in them.
    3. to stop people having sex in them.

Wetherspoons buy their drinks cheap because they are getting close to the sell by date. But due to the large quantities they sell, they know they can sell them before they go out of date. It's a sort of stock clearance centre for the drink manufacturers.

So it's a case of, if you want better quality you go elsewhere and pay much higher prices.

A lot of pub/bars lock the disabled toilet if the main toilet is upstairs. It's because people are lazy and will use the more convenient one. Do you not have your own key as I thought disabled toilets all use the same locking system and one key opens all?

Wetherspoons - I'm generally impressed by the quality of their 'trads'/cask ales - high turnover, well cellared, very keenly priced. Food is good enough quality for pub grub, generally consistent, often priced very keenly.

Downsides - you can queue a while as they frequently seem to have fewer staff than ideal. Ambience is dreadful - you're basically in a warehouse with a bar in the corner.

You get what you pay for, I guess.

Many of the Wetherspoons up here (Central Scotland) are actually originally bank buildings. So they are aesthetically pleasing.

Wetherspoons' own-brand "Red" ale is actually made by the local brewery in my town. :)

If you need to use disabled toilets regularly get a RADAR key.
