It's possible to have this offer changed somewhat by speaking to Dell (you won't get any cashback though).
- they were happy to swap Vista Business for Home Premium - no charge.
- they swapped the free Dell 926 printer (worth £71) for the 9 cell battery upgrade (£35) & Kensington mini mouse (£15).
- by going for the 3 year standard warranty including accidental cover (usually £117), they knocked something off the total price and upgraded the mouse to a wireless one.
Net price: £510 delivered incl VAT, Vista Home Premium, 9 cell battery, 3 yr standard warranty & Kensington Wireless Mouse (the £26 one, I think).
Might be of interest to someone who doesn't want the printer.0 -
I just got mine today it came with Vista buisness, MSwork, goggle desktop, Orange and Tiscali bloatware (yuk), Mcafee 30day trial
Impressed with it just got rid of some of the bloatware, as above apart from Msworks. Didnt like the google equivalent widget things on desktop, so using Vista offerings.
The dvd seems slow though it wouldn't pull faster enough XviD file from it (700mb), but not really a big issue
Can anyone recommend a 15.4 laptop case, I am wanting one that flips open and has some protection in case of knocks, would also like one if there is any that can strap over a back of a car seat for kids to watch or play on it.0 -
Tesco's are selling a nice looking lappy bag just now, to go along with their own laptop on sale, I think it's around £15-£20, may be worth a look, I quite fancy this lappy but really want the new shinny type lcd screen.0

Hi All,
With this laptop, what does the WHr refer to with regards to battery life, as surely it can't be Working Hours, else the 9 cell would do 85hrs (3.5 days!) on one charge!
I am interested in buying one as the deal is great, and if AMDs do run cool, so using less power all the better! If I get one though it would be as a backup computer, so would rarely be away from the house, so does anyone know the approx number of hours you would get out of any of the batteries?
Cheers

It would depend on what do you with laptop to make a difference on the amount of time, ie playing dvd's, cpu intensive programs etc.
But having got one yesterday and using only 1st charge (I did pay about £11 more for the extra cells, think it was 9 instead of 6) and it lasted about 2 hours (still some charge left) mainly surfing (that takes battery life down as they advise to turn it off with short key when not in use) and getting rid of the bloatware mentioned above.
I emailed Dell for dimensions of the laptop for a case and they rang today and offered a free case which is really good of them.0 -

Wow, that seems pretty poor for a 9 cell? You sure they haven't screwed you with the wrong battery? If not, then that processor is damn power hungry! My 9 cell with intel duo processor does 4-5 hours easy. Check to make sure they gave you the right battery!0 -
I put this question on the Techie site, but perhaps somebody here will know. Do Dell laptops come with a free disk, just in case you have to reboot for any reason?Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0

I have a single core turion with 1gig mem and everything else the same. It runs for a good 2-3 hours on the 6 cell depending on use. They are not power hungry chips at all. Something is not right if you're 9 cell is only lasting 2 hours. Did you have the cd drive playing all the time ?

Mine arrived yesterday and it is as good as I thought it would be.
Had to remove the dell junk and the wireless card was set to wireless b by default which needed changing to b/g
All in all a very nice machine.
Although does anyone know where I can get a 64bit version of vista from and how much they are?0
