Hi Guys, bit of a long shot here, got my sons laptop, Fujitsu Siemans-Amilo Li 1705, Vista, screen completely black,with white cursor, which moves, but not booting up; ;;It switches on/off BUT no noise, no processor hiss, dead silent.
I had this with my Acer 6 months ago, and Pressed Fn > to brighten scree, which it did, then altered settings to full, and been ok since.
Is Fujitsu same, OR, is it different ???? on key board.

    Try it with a Live CD/USB Flash/DVD.

    Do you have a blank CD, empty USB Flash drive or blank DVD?

    This version of Kubuntu will do.

    How did you create the Kubuntu disc? Did you Boot from it and utilise the Try Kubuntu function or just pop it into the drive and hope for the best?

    downloaded it onto my pc, nti, and created a cd from it, then just put in the drive of sons pc and hoped for the best.;cannot access any funtions as screen seems stuck in screen saver mode, as screen saver, vista default ,pictures , keeps appearing the one that appears when pc has been left unused for ?? x minutes,( on mine it,s bubbles.)and nothing else,;;
    no keys work, touchpad operates arrow, but, on a black/grey screen.
    Don,t know what kubuntu is or how it operates?
    Checked it on mine, Run wubi.exe, etc, so seems to have coppied ok?
    That doesn,t appear on Sons pc .NOWT
    Thanks nifty.

    You need to boot from the CD. In other words, place it into the drive and restart the machine and hit the Enter key when you see 'Hit any key to Boot from CD/DVD'.
    Then you have the choice to 'Try Kubuntu'. That way the Kubuntu operating system will load in to the RAM and not interfere with anything on the hard drive. This gives an opportunity to test the hardware.

    But first, try Booting in to Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key as soon as you turn the machine on. You can choose Safe Mode with Networking as your first choice to see if you can use the laptop in that mode.

    Hi Nifty, cannot do it, for some reason it,s stuck in the idle mode, even when I turn pc off, and back on, it goes straight to idle mode,Black screen with white arrow, then every now and then 5_ mins the vista screensaver comes on. ?
    Cannot get into safe mode, nothing comes up F8, just the arrow, then the windows Vista screensaver, after a while. sometimes not; just stays black with white arrow?
    When I put disc in, and hit enter, the round turning disc showed next to arrow, for a second or two, then nowt.
    Just watching idle vista screensave now;;;;;

    Turn off via Power button and remove power source and battery for a few minutes.

    It seems that you have a problem with the following of simple instructions.

    I certainly didn't write that you should place the disc into the drive and press Enter.

    Read the instruction again.

    As soon as you turn the machine on again after replacing the battery etc keep tapping F8..

    Nifty, one thing I don,t have is dislexia;;;I f you had said remove the battery first, I would have, because by doing it, has fixed it,without doing anything else. to which I am eternally grateful.
    Your bedside manner leaves a bit to be desired.
    Thankyou very much.

    I didn't tell you to remove the battery first, because it isn't necessary. I'm only suggesting it because you clearly were unable to follow the instruction to restart and boot from the CD.

    My bedside manner improves when I am being paid. If I'm giving you my time freely, try not to waste it, by following the written instruction to the letter.
