Becca, I'd second the tip to look in Ikea for furniture if you haven't already. So much cheaper than other baby shops and the designs are really fun. :) We looked too late but we've just bought the Stuva storage bench instead of a toy box. The bottom on this big drawer is a lot sturdier than normal Ikea drawer bottoms so we're hoping it'll hold up to being abused by our LO! :) You might need to check the sturdiness of the other furniture though as I know our wardrobes and drawers are all looking worse for wear after only about 4 years. The drawers don't take much weight at all, but then, if they're just for baby clothes they don't need to take a lot of weight?

I also really wanted to get this canopy (£8! Would cost twice that in materials to make one myself) but there's nowhere it would fit without a massive furniture reshuffle. :o

    Hi all,
I can't believe I will be moving on to the next thread on Friday.....time is going so fast. Feel huge today, have really pop and feel like I'm carrying the world around my waist.

Have had a good old tummy ache for couple of days now, think it is stretching pain considering I'm now bigger than last week!!! Really struggling staying awake, ready for bed at 4pm! Not good when your still in work. Least I get an early dart tomorrow as I have a physio appointment at 430 for my back. Yay.

Why have you been referred con? I've had one, but if for different reasons I would imagine the apt would be different. PM me if you'd prefer...

Mine was because of my BMI plus the fact that my Dad is diabetic.

Because my BMI is just over the acceptable threshhold. Bit of a pain... I had lost a lot before falling pregnant  not sure on lbs but was doing a bootcamp and had lost 29 inches. Now I am fat again which I am not happy with but hopefully it's 'baby weight' as I haven't been pigging out or anything but I am less active obviously as I've not been doing the hardcore exercises....

Con I think it depends on how much over the magic BMI figure you are - I know BigZ's mentioned she's only just above it so was dismissed by her consultant into midwife care

Mine's higher so I've got shared consultant and midwife care - I saw the consultant after anamoly scan and all she did was discuss that I'd see her at 36 weeks where I'd be weighed, the position of the baby and her growth checked with a possible scan. Presumably at this point they'll go through the birth options with me but considering there's no midwife centres nearby and i don't want a homebirth it'll be 'something in hospital' so i'm not too fussed
The risk of complications due to my size was discussed - ie instrumental delivery and I was told I'd have to have to a medically managed 3rd stage of labour (delivery of placenta) and I'll have to have blood thinning injections for a few days after birth due to risk of DVT. oh and rather embarassingly she said that a manual handling risk assessment would have to be done for when i'm in labour :o

My sister's was much higher still - she was five stone heavier than me when she got pregnant - and the difference was that she remained under consultant care and had extra growth scans to monitor baby's growth as big babies bring further complications

oh and everybody with a 'high' bmi gets a glucose tolerance test, which from all accounts is just really really dull way to spend a morning lol

Claire - I've been having lots of tickling by baby too. it's a weird feeling isn't it? :p

Mrs Bunny - time seems to have speeded up a bit doesn't it. I'm not far behind you. I'll be 23 wks on Mon.

Con 1888 - Emz is right - will depend on the reason for referral but as I remember I just had a chat with her. She was like oh why have you been referred? And seemed unconcerned that it was because I am I older. In saying that she has said I need to have a GTT. My BMI is 25.9 which I try to tell myself isn't that bad or maybe that test is just another thing related to age - I don't know. Also told me I'll get another scan - again for being old! Glad I'm under consultant now since they found out I have low lying placenta which I'm not panicking about, not panicking about!!!:eek::eek:

Teamlowe - oh how embarrassing about the risk assessment. You really don't look that big from your photos.

For those of you still to buy baby things, mamas and papas have 30% off at the moment. Boots also have extra points today when you spend £75 online. Their instore events are better as you get more points but I don't have energy to shop.

Faithhope, they didn't seem fussed about my BMI of 27/28. Could the glucose test be because of a family history of diabeties or big babies (often caused by GD) or perhaps anyone under consultant care gets it? I feel old.

I felt the baby kick externally last night!!! :D I really didn't think that was possible yet as even though I feel big in the evenings I didn't think my bump was big enough or the baby strong enough. Unfortunately hubbie was asleep.

Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
  • Hi Kynthia - no history of diabetes and DD1/DD2 were 6lbs 10 and 7lbs 3 so maybe it is as you say just because of consultant care. You can't out-oldy me ;) i def must be the oldest - I'm 41! :p

I'm getting some external kicks but not enough that DH has managed to catch a feel. Lol with this low placenta that's the only thing he'll be catching a feel of!! :D
