  • Your bump is still looking neat for 17 weeks Mrs_T_M, I suppose I should do a bump photo to show you all how massive mine is already - I dread to think how big I'm going to get this time, although putting on weight doesn't concern me, it's more the logistics of moving about and fitting through doors!
I meant to say before, if you're really struggling with your hips mention it at your next midwife appointment as she might be able to arrange physiotherapy, it may or may not help. In my case with DS it didn't but that's because the pain in my pelvis wasn't caused by PGP (or SPD or whatever the current name is) but because of other complications unlikely to affect most women in pregnancy. I'm going to mention my pelvic pain at my 16 week appointment with the midwife on the 22nd, I'm not sure if she'll refer me to physio or not as it's probably just my pelvis carrying on hurting from having DS now it's under a bit of extra pressure.
Pain and exhaustion and bleeding aside I'm finding pregnancy a lot easier this time round....even though it may seem like I'm moaning sometimes!

Speaking of the next MW appointment, am I supposed to ring up and make those appointments, or is the MW, or will I be getting something through the post? I had to book my 8 week, but haven't heard anything out of the MW since! What weeks are we supposed to have appointments?

I think the only numbers I have are emergency numbers, definitely do not have a number for a midwife. I'll double check tomorrow and ask at the doctors appointment I have for tomorrow (I think it's either a consultant or what most ladies get directly after their 12 week scan, since they "didn't have time" to speak to me about the scan when we had it).

I have to ring and book mine.

Do you not have a list on the back of your notes?

My notes are this big green book and on the back page there is a space to write in appt times.

Then at the bottom there is a list that shows all the appts you have - if you are a first time mother or less if you are on 2nd baby or more. And in my area some are with gp and some with midwife, so then you know who to book them with.

This page shows the appts you will probably have.

First contact with midwife or doctor
Eight to 12 weeks: booking appointment
Eight to 14 weeks: dating scan
    16 weeks
    18-20 weeks: anomaly scan
    25 weeks
    28 weeks
    31 weeks
    34 weeks
    36 weeks
    38 weeks
    40 weeks
    41 weeks

This matches with what Ive been told. I see the GP at 25, and 31 weeks. And I think possibly 36 too - cant remember book is upstairs :)

My midwife gave me her number to text her on if I have questions and I also have numbers for the community midwives if shes not about. Sounds like your one needs to give you more info!

Anyway after your 12 week scan, the next appt is 16 weeks. I dont think anyone has an appt other than the scan at 12 weeks (unless perhaps you get put under consultant led care rather than midwife care and in that case sorry Im not sure).

Mrs TM although my booking in appointment was made through the midwives themselves, all subsequent appointments have been done by ringing the GP- the midwives have a clinic once a week that the gp's receptionist keep the diary for. So I'd give the GP a ring in the morning and if it's not done through them they can give you the right number

  • Mrs_T_M I also had to ring and make my 16 week appointment at the midwife clinic through my doctor's surgery reception, the midwife said to book it once I'd had my 12 week scan.
  • No 16 week appt for me but could be because I already have children? Anomaly scan (eek) Wednesday and then I have to book to see midwife at 24 weeks. Ask tomorrow mrs tm they should be able to help you x
