I think becs probably meant a duvet when she said quilt? Sometimes us crazy English people call duvets, quilts :)

I was thinking 'make a duvet?! Are you insane? I don't think anyone would know how to make that!' Then realised you meant a lovely American patchwork type thing lol!

I think I'm going to try lying on a spare duvet because my hips are killing me too I wake up in the night with the pain.

Yep! Patchwork = quilt to me.

Even though I'll have been here for 2 years come April, some terms still escape me. :o

I guess it's because it's an odd European invention that's relatively new inn the uk? And as it is 'quilted' (2 layers sewn together to hold stuffing/wadding/ (batting for Mrs T;)) I guess that's why we call the same thing both.

As I make patchwork quilts I often get in a muddle between English & American terms and what I actually mean!

Edit to add: it's so darn cold in my bedroom I have a sheet, duvet, woolen blanket and a homemade patchwork quilt on top!

no aqua natal classes in Nottingham at a sensible time (ie not in the working day) it seems! :(

will have to keep going with the DVD and maybe just go for a normal swim. I also bought a yoga DVD, but it appears to be 90% practising breathing, and that just makes me SOOOOO bored!!!

Becs - Puddleducks run one at 8:15pm on a Thursday night at the Park Inn Raddison. They also run another one at 5:45pm on another night at a different Nottingham location.

I found it the other day when I searched for classes myself. I'm nowhere near there but unfortunately that was my closest one :(

I might sign up for a pregnancy yoga class at some point.....

I start my 'yoga for pregnancy and labour' class next week! Really excited, it's the same one I did in my last pregnancy and although I didn't actually end up using much of the yoga it taught me to breathe properly and I met lots of lovely ladies at the same stage of pregnancy who also live in my town. I would highly recommend doing it.

  • robots - glad you are getting more support from the medical proffesionals now, I'll be thinking of you on Wednesday.

Lara - hope you manage to find some temp work, if it's only temporary then it shouldn't matter so much that you're pregnant as they wouldn't be expecting you stay on anyway. Is there an agency that specialises in your field of study that you could join?

Mrs_T_M I'm finding it uncomfortable to sleep on my side too, my legs start going numb after a bit, and it gets painful on my bikini line, I've been flipping from side to side all night the last few nights, it's not comfy to sleep on my back either. I do have a pregnancy pillow somewhere so will have to dig it out as it did help with DS. I didn't start suffering like this until 16/17 weeks last time. The pain in my pelvis is coming back already too. I've been told I can take paracetemol but I'm trying not to take anything. Good luck with getting your homebirth - they can't force you to come into hospital when you go into labour anyway - and I'm sure if you realised something was going wrong you'd go in.

congratulations on feeling your baby move mysecretalias.

becs - the only excercise I'm getting is walking, although I'm not sure how much longer that will last as I damaged my pelvis in my first pregnancy and it's starting to hurt again already. I found swimming quite painful in my first pregnancy too.

fireyfirenze - I might be wrong but I'm sure work have to allow you time off to attend things like aquanatal if you want to, this is what my physiotherapist told me when I was expecting DS 3 years ago but things could have changed since then!

AFM, had some more bleeding this weekend and today, but it wasn't too heavy and it was brown so I'm not overly worried. I've figured out that it seems to happen around the time I would be having a period so the sonographer that said it could be the wall that the pregnancy isn't connected to bleeding could be right. I've felt baby tapping me today too so I'm sure everything is fine, and the midwife at the EPU did say I could be one of the women that bleed throughout pregnancy. If it gets red or heavy I'll ring the midwife for advice.
I told everyone in my Department that I'm pregnant today, so at least I can start wearing my maternity leggings with a baggy top now if I feel like it (we have a casual dress policy). I was going to wait a bit longer, but I'm starting to get uncomfortable already and I can feel a huge mass in my stomach and am no longer able to bend over fully, I have to crouch, so it's only a matter of time before it becomes glaringly obvious. I did feel sorry for one of the other girls in the office who has a little one as the team then started quizzing her if she was going to have another one too!
I thought the 2nd trimester was when you start to bloom and have loads of energy, but I'm more shattered now than I was before - hoping it passes soon - I'm really not sleeping well. It's very exciting that I'm a third of the way through already though!

For anyone interested, 17 week bump photo! And yes, we still have our Christmas tree up! Remember, it's the bottom bump, the top one is the food baby, and further up than that is boobs! I feel like I have 3 bumps now. Real baby, food baby, and boobies. ;)

RE exercise and finding classes etc at a suitable time or price - if you have Sky tv there are some programmes my DH found and recorded for me like 'tone up with prenatal pilates' and then for later 'baby and me yoga'!

I havent done any yet but I think for me it will be the best thing as although I actually do have some time in the day Im too paranoid since I had bleeding to bother signing up and paying for a course, and if I do stuff at home it doesnt matter what Im wearing and takes no time to travel there etc and if you dont like it you can just stop it!
