I'm finishing work at 37 weeks. :) That includes 2 weeks annual leave so ML actually officially starts at 39 weeks. I'm 34 weeks now and feel more than ready to stop work even though when I was first thinking about it I thought I'd be better off waiting until as late as possible, you just can't tell how you're going to feel! I don't have a physically demanding job but I've got problems with my back, bum and hips so sitting at my desk all day is really uncomfortable... also the baby doesn't like being squished up all day, he's only happy when I'm standing or lying so he can stretch out! :p

I think you just have to listen to your body and do the best thing for you. It's one thing being worried about being at home bored for weeks, but if it's painful or uncomfortable to be at work then I'd take boredom over pain any day! :)
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

    Hi all,

Room for one more? I had my 12 week scan on NYE and all was ok. I'm so relived! This is baby number 1 for me and DH. I'm not a massive poster but always lurking!

Have called in sick to work today as I have had the worst headache since yesterday. I thought if I could finally get to sleep it would go but no such luck! I've been drinking loads so its not dehydration. Has any one else suffered with bad headaches? I've tried 4head and it has eased it slightly.

    Hi everyone,

Well, I've been AWOL for quite a while. Had a lovely relaxing Christmas and didn't check in and then when i did, things were kicking off on this thread a bit and it upset me so I've stayed away until now.

I don't want to bring up the whole debate, other than to say I am adopted as my birth mother also felt I'd be "better off" with other parents (not for gender reasons and there were definitely mental health issues involved), and whilst I've had the best upbringing anyone could have wished for really, the truth of this has left me with a lot of issues (esp regarding commitment/abandonment) that I still struggle with even now, despite the loving family and DH I have. I also met my birth father a couple of years ago for the first time (he was no longer with my mother) and whilst he had gone along with what was happening at the time as "for the best", it has tortured him for years since and always been something he regretted). Mary - if you'd like to discuss any of this in private, please feel free to PM me.

hello to those coming over from the under 12 weeks thread - nice to see you all here!

samtoby - don't know if you're still reading this thread too, but congrats on your scan!!! am so excited for mine now and can't believe how high up the list I am!

robotsindisguise - so sorry to hear your news; it must be an incredibly stressful time for you with the not knowing. I've got no better advice than the lovely ladies on here have given you already, but just wanted to give you big hugs.

vickyvics - myself and DH have already had a row about the who/what/when after the birth. many of my friends who've had their baby in the same hospital I'm going to have been kept in for 6-8hours after the birth (where there are no complications) and then sent home. If this is the case, I want it to just be the 3 of us, especially as I'm hoping to breastfeed so this will be important skin on skin bonding time. DH doesn't get this at all and has already said he "might not be able to stop" his mother!!!! This is the despite the fact they live 2 hours away..... Don't even get me started on the "discussion" we've had about the days after the birth either....

clolla - I'm planning to leave work on 2 May, so 3 weeks before EDD. I think I'd like that time to finish "nesting" and rest up but totally understand the financial balancing act, it's a tricky one. My ML starts on 2 May as I'm choosing to take my annual leave in December 2014 (to get a full pay packet before Xmas!) before returning to work in January 2015 - writing that now seems like SUCH a long time!!!

sorry to everyone I've missed, I've just read about 20 pages to catch up and can't remember everyone else's news but hope you are all ok at the moment.

AFM, finally got to feel some movements 2 days before Christmas! Absolutely fabulous and can feel some every day now - it feels like just our little special secret and puts a massive smile on my face everytime. For those ladies further along/on their second, how long did it take from feeling movements before your OH could feel something too from the outside?

In other news, got a lovely 1/2 price nursery furniture set in the sales for £499 so really pleased to have a big purchase down! Also got bought 2 baby name books for Xmas, so that should keep us occupied!

Mrs Muffin - just seen your post - I had really bad headaches too and ended up with codeine on prescription from the doctors as paracetamol wouldn't shift them. apparently they are "normal"!!!

Becsxxx - Good buy on your furniture, we haven't even thought about anything yet! I have no idea when I will go on ML or even what a baby needs! Hmm I guess there is plenty of time to organise that though! That sucks about the headaches, I don't usually suffer with headaches but they are awful! I hope they go away soon otherwise I think I will be going to the Doctors for something to take.

I know that pregnant ladies are entitled to free prescriptions, do I need to apply for this or is it done automatically? It wasn't mentioned at my Midwife appointment.

Edited to add: I've just googled this and it would appear my midwife needs to sign a form so I will get that done on 16th Jan at my next appointment.

I think it was around 21/22 weeks when oh could feel movements from the outside. Now I'm at 28 weeks you can also see them sometimes!! Looks very alien like!!:D

My MW gave me a form to fill in and return to the surgery.

She should have really given it to you at your booking in appt. They just stamp it for you and then either you or they post it off, and you then get a plastic card which you can show at the pharmacy.

I had my booking in appt at around 10 weeks but got my sickness tablets at 5/6 weeks so the pharmacy gave me a form to get a refund, which I still havent done..

RE maternity leave, Im hoping to finish work at 35 weeks, but then take 4 weeks holiday so it would officially start at 39 weeks. Need to check this with my boss this week but cant see why she will have an issue as its either pay me 4 weeks hol then or later in the year!

Id love to stop even earlier, had really bad aches walking about yesterday.

MrsMuffin - I agree with Claire - I got mine at the booking in appointment. Maybe call your surgery reception and see if they can get one for you? The card came through quite quickly when i'd sent the form off.
