Hi All
Hugs to all those feeling yukky xx
I have been rather busy over the last few days had 2 days in birmingham and 2 days in York which was lovely but tiring. Went ice skating which i probably shouldnt have done but i'm not bad at skating and didnt fall over!! I figured baby is pretty well protected at 13 weeks anyway!
I think my sickness is finally going but i do have the occasional blip.
Is anyone else having/had an increase in headaches? I get them a lot anyway but it seems like i have one every day, i will mention it to my midwife next time i see her.
It's interesting to read all the breastfeeding advice (thank you) i tried to breastfeed last time but didnt feel like i had the support i needed to help me through the tough first couple of weeks so i gave up. This time i am determined and i am doing a lot more research and putting support in place before baby arrives.0 -
big hugs to everyone feeling poorly - it's that horrible time of year when there are sniffles everywhere! i've not got a bug or anything, but have been sick a few times again - when on earth is this second trimester "bloom" I keep hearing about going to happen????!?!!?
thanks to everyone for the info and advice on breastfeeding etc. that's really helpful and I've printed some of it to read with DH. I'm hoping to breastfeed exclusively for 6 months, but also want DH to be involved and be able to express some for him to feed and to make going back to work easier.0 -
Lushlifesaver, that's so cute! I'm still only getting faint movements, and as I read your post and EDD in the signature I was thinking 'oh she's way ahead of me' but it's only 5 days! April sounds much further away than March in my head.
As for all the breastfeeding talk...I have to be honest and say I'm struggling to get my head round the idea. I would love to try, and I'm pretty sure I will, but I'm not sure it's something I can see myself doing long term. If we can master expressing bottles alongside I think that'll make it continue for longer, if we can't I just can't see exclusive breasfeeding working for longer than a month or two. I just can't get my head around the practicalities of it...maybe it'll be easier once baby is here, but I'm not convinced.0 -

Laurablue, if you want to give breastfeeding a go, don't be put off by only wanting to try for a month or two - that's loads of time.
Many Mums start bfing and stop after a couple of weeks. It's not for everyone, and of course many Mums find they can't manage it at all for various reasons, but it's worth a try to see how you get on.Mortgage when started: £330,995

Scampdog - Glad the scan went well, a little grandson, very cute! Don't get "too" carried away now, he he
Squirrel - I asked my mum for a teapot for xmas, always fancied one but never bought one. Lol. Other gifts are pretty usual for me. Perfume, couple of scarves, new purse and some hotel chocolat choccies! And a box of toffifees :rotfl:
Marywooyeah - hope your infection is clearing and that you're feeling better
Mysecretalias - hope you're feeling better too - seems like a few of you ladies are having a rough time ((hugs))
Eiteews - Hope your Mum picked up some cutes things in her hoarding of baby things. Bless her…..
VickyVics - I had a lot of tommee tippe for DS1. The miscowave steriliser, bottle warmer (quite useful in the first few months). I tried Dr Browns bottles too as my friend swore by them, but my son didn't like them. I guess each baby is different - we used the tommee tippee closer to nature bottles for him. I combination fed for 3 months and then dropped breast feeding - tongue tied baby, flat nipples apparantly so needed nipple shields, and very big boobs meaning flannels to push them up at feeds meant the whole thing wasn't as lovely and natural as it's all meant to be. Not sure this time will be much different but I'll be giving it a go….We had to combination feed as my poor son was losing too much weight and this was the advice recommended to us - we couldn't leave the hospital until a week after his birth when he started to pick up again……combination feeding worked for us and I wouldn't have any problem doing it again……
Claire16c - the bottle warmer (well the tommee tippe one anyway) heats food too, so might be useful when the baby starts on solids….. I used a medela double express pump in the hospital, a very strange experience, tee hee. I got the medela swing which was pretty good for at home.
Team Lowe - I found breast feeding tough - see above. I got cracked nipples that bled when my son was feeding. Seems that's fine but strange to see blood in your little one's mouth and a little scary the first time. I got mastitis a few times and it hurt and really knocked me for 6. It was like getting flu. Lansinoh nipple cream is an absolute god send! I kid you not. You will need this, Go buy it if you plan on breast feeding. For me, breast feeding wasn't easy, but I know for friends, it has been and you're right, they don't tell you enough that it won't be easy for everyone…...

I'm the opposite I am really scared of not being able to do it, not just for the obvious health type reasons but because for some reason the idea of measuring out bottles correctly, at the right temp & carting all the equipment about scares me!
I'm so OCD with making recipes I can imagine id be a complete nightmare checking 88 times id measured the powder etc out right, not to mention the thought of doing that in the night or worrying DH had done it correctly I'm such a control freak sometimes.
So I'm hoping it goes ok for me!0 -
Thanks for the website TL really helpful x0

Evening all!!
Those who have already used a breast pump, quick question - my friend is giving me her double electric pump (her hubby brought one in a last ditch attempt to get their daughter to take breast milk but she never ended up using it) but the one thing she did say was 'make sure you get the band so you don't have to sit there and hold the pump whilst expressing.
However on googling 'breast pump support band' I can't actually find anything. Does anyone know if such a thing even exists or if not whether I could use some sort of makeshift solution?
Ooh Lanisoh is definitely going on my list too now thanks to all the recommendations!
Becsxxx I wouldn't worry, and this is coming from your due date twin here....I'm not even so much as showing a hint of 'blooming pregnant woman' yet.....more like death (and puke) warmed up with a hint of the hunchback of notre dame due to my hip pain so I wouldn't worry!!
Cllola I've been getting loads of headaches since I found out I was pregnant. Having looked it up apparently it's normal but I would mention it at whatever appointment you've got coming up next.
Lushlifesaver ooh that is so exciting! I bet it makes it feel so much more real too! I am both excited and also a little terrified of my baby starting to kick!! I feel like I might become a bit obsessed with feeling the movements all the time!!
I had a nice moment of my own today, had my consultants appointment this morning to discuss my high-risk-ness and I wasn't expecting this but he used a Doppler to hear baby's heartbeat....for the first time! My best friend who came with me was thrilled that she got to hear it for the first time since I got to hear hers for the first time also when she was pregnant with my god daughter!! My OH was a bit upset that he missed it thoughOur first baby due 25th May 2014 :T
