You wouldn't say ' oh I heard it was missionary style' etc!

My 8 year old falls into that catagory; when we told him, he asked "does that mean you had special cuddles with Mummy?"
WE're still working on tact, too, as one question was "aren't you too old to have a baby?" When we assured him that I wasn't too old, he asked my mother if she would have another baby, too - apparently seeing no great difference between 35 years old and 64 years old!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Mrshappy thats so rude! I cant believe your mum would tell people your private business in the first place, as you say it should be up to you. But to make a comment like that from the friend is just bang out of order! What a d**k!0

Lol, 8 year olds can get away with it-60 year old men less so! When my mum told this persons wife she said that it was obvious that I was pregnant from the amount of weight I had put on! Then my mum gets offended when I tell her I don't really like her friends! Can't imagine why!0 -
Con my DH isn't normally excitable at all either, but since the 20 week scan he got pretty excited, so was I.
But then since the bleeding and being in hospital I don't want to buy anything or get excited until a few more weeks have gone by and I'm in the safer zone and so it's been irritating me when DH talks about buying baby stuff etc
So maybe it's just him worrying as MSA suggested?
That and he is a very ' here and now' person... he doesn't really do talking about things in the future, he takes each day as it comes, it can be a pain but I guess he never gets himself set up for disappointment also. I'm the opposite, I LOVE planing, anything from babys room to holidays to christenings.. I just love to have something to plan towards. I did say we will wait til after Christmas before really concentrating on the room and buying stuff/ looking at names but I would like to at least discuss some.. We have lots of baby stuff in the livingroom atm, the things my brother gave us as we are clearing out upstairs atm and I don't want them covered in dust or anything... maybe after Christmas he will get more excited.... I do hope so or I may bash him on the head !!! :rotfl:0 -
We have now started buying things as well see them. Had a really good talk with DH about how some things are going to need to be brought second hand otherwise costs will soon spiral out of control and he is now onboard. Well, in that I can look for bargains and buy them when I see what I want to buy. Yesterday I managed to pick up a Tommee Tippee electric steraliser, bottle warmer, travel bottle warmer (didn't really want this but came with the other bits), a couple of Brand new bottles (one Dr Brown and one Tommee Tippee, 2 insulated bottle carriers for when we are out and about and a couple of brand new spare teats!!! All for £10!!!
In other news, after being quite cuffed of only feeling sick and not actually throwing up in the first trimester I am finding it is now biting me in the bum! I am now finding it hard to keep down actual meals. I am instead living on small amounts of food often. I'm wondering if this is something to do with the baby taking up more room and there being less room for my stomach and its contents.
Hope everyone that is feeling rubbish feels better soon xxx0 -
Are you definitely going to uses bottles? If you are going to breastfeed, don't buy too much bottle stuff, as it might go to waste....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

I plan on starting to breast feed but I intend to express as well as I know my DH wants to take part in the feeding (and it will give me a break). I also know from experience of watching family and friends babies that sometimes its not possible to make enough breast milk to feed baby and so have to add in formula to keep little one satisfied. Scarily pretty much all babies on DH side and a couple from my side were in the 9lbs!!! (I should say that I don't mind having a larger baby I am just worried about the implications on the labour side of having a larger baby).0

With expressing - don't count on it, particularly in the early stages. I know several women who fed babies with no trouble, but couldn't ever quite get the hang of expressing (like my Mama, who fed all 4 of us until we were about a year old, but never managed to do much expressing).
I expressed regularly from when I went back to work until Isaac was a year old, but as I remember, I couldn't really get anything from expressing until he was a couple of months old.
I think (it's been a while!) that introducing a bottle very early can lead to something called "nipple confusion", where a baby realises it can get milk more easily from a bottle and decides it doesn't want to bother with the breast after all. Some babies get that at any age, though - I was lucky, Isaac never minded so long as milk was coming his way!
This is a really good organisation for helping support breastfeeding:

My friend was going to do the same thing with expressing so her DH could do a feed but the baby gets so much more milk from the boob than you do from expressing she didn't bother after a few attempts as she said it was just wasting time she could have been feeding or something else.
Someone has given me a bottle warmer but I'm not planning on buying any bottles.
My other friend had a lot of trouble though & ended up expressing for 6 weeks which was a nightmare. But I guess she got good use of the pump!0
