Congrats on a great scan Eiteews!!! Another team blue!!! Thats brill!!!

I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on cot bumpers and bedding. We went into Mothercare at the weekend and DH fell in love with all the matching bedding sets. However, I have been doing some reading and there is a lot of articles out in cyberspace that say they are dangerous. Yet I know a lot of couples that use them. This is creating a bit of a dilemma in my head because on one hand they now terrify me but on the other hand the cot will look so empty without blankets and bumpers.

What are you guys thinking of doing?

I'm not getting any, cot death society reccomend not using them til *I think* 8 months, I know some people still do but I couldn't deal with the guilt if I did and something happened.
    Edit: it's 12 months

As far as I am aware the issues with cot bumpers are the risk of baby getting tangled in the ties or getting caught between the bumper and the cot side, which could also cause overheating so although moses baskets have fabric on the inside it's not the same as using bumpers. I hope that makes sense! :)

    Yes it does, thank you.

I was reading or heard something about cot bumpers preventing air flow the other day but your reasons make more sense.

I was also imagining the baby putting their face in the fabric but I guess when they're in a Moses basket they're too small to move about.

At Moses basket age, they can't turn over and press their faces anywhere, I suppose? They just lie there and yell (-:

    Evening ladies!
Wow, lots of thread to get through and I've only been away since Friday!! Hi newbies graduating from the 12 week thread, glad you've all had successful scans.:j

Had a lovely weekend away for my bday, just knackered now. Baby also decided to choose this weekend to go mental with the kicking!! It feels amazing, last night we lay in bed feeling baby kicking like mad! I woke up a couple of times in the night to feel kicks too. Wondering if the fact I ate sooo much rich food contributed to its energy levels! Ha!

Hope everyone with sickness is feeling better, I know how you feel!

Anyone booked to have a tour at their chosen hospital/ birth centre yet?

I hadn't though either until someone whose booked into the same hospital asked when I'm booked in for my look round! She apparently got an appointment at one of her scans.
I'm going to ring this week to find out.

I'm not getting any cot bumpers etc either (just googled it!), we hadn't even thought about things like that yet. So much to think about isn't there....

Yep.. also see they recommend baby being in room with you for 6 months, tbh I wanted baby in own room earlier than that. Originally thought from day 1 but then thought a few months... I guess I will just stick it out. Our silly dog sleeps in our room though and he is a clumsy oaf so going to need to sort something out between now and baby coming ... he could knock a moses basket over by mistake...
  • Good morning everyone! Hope you're all well as can be today :)

Morning everyone, hope you're all feeling well

Haven't commented for a few days, but still reading along with you all.

Having been pretty lucky with sickness in the early stages, I hit a new all time low last night at about 8pm, vomiting in the bus station I need to walk through to get to my car park!!!! Just came upon me, was horrific!!!! Worst thing was that no-one came over or offered to help (despite the fact I was dressed really smartly), people just stared at me like I was a wino! Tried desperately to find a member of staff to inform, but couldn't, so just wandered off in the end - AWFUL!

Feeling much better today after a good night's sleep though!

We are not finding out the sex for our first baby (though we've discussed we probably would for any subsequent children). I like the idea of that being a more exciting surprise!
